Is there a wave, a secret shake or some other "Howdy" among Prius drivers? Like motorcyclists always do that arm-out-hand-low acknowledgment to each other. We've always wondered if Prius drivers have one. If not, we should!
Indeed. I've found Prius drivers to be rather snobbish when it comes to waving. I've got two motorcycles....and a dedicated rice-burner hating, tattoo-festooned, bearded, air-cooled motorcycle rider will (almost) always wave to another cyclist----even if they roll a pink moped with a bunch of Obama stickers on it. Prius drivers? Not so much. Part of the price I pay for driving green I guess....
I try to either wave or shaka but I have yet to receive any form of acknowledgement in return yet. I do and will park next to other Prii when I can. Aloha, ED
That may be true for Priuses.....not so for most M/C riders. Still...I get your drift. Noted for future reference.
I know when I had my SRT8 other SRT owners would do either hand gestures or blink the lights. Don't know with the Prius though. High performance cars and motorcycles I think are a different sort of group. I just think in the end as gas keeps climbing we just have the satisfaction of knowing we have more money left in our pockets. I have noticed all the jokes and stuff have subsided at my work with gas climbing over $3.60 a gallon here in FL, and it is projected to hit $4 by next week. So I think looking smug will be more than fine in my book.
Yeah, while there are many folks on Priuschat who truly do love their Prii, I think a vast majority of people bought em' to save money on fuel and don't feel 'proud' like we do so they would never think to wave at a fellow Prius owner.
When I first bought my son's 2004 Prius in January of 2006, I drove it for a few months while he was attending University in the middle east. Around here, few Prii were on the road but it seemed as if the ones on the road wanted to be the only ones on the road. Snobby? Oh yeah!! Look smug, indeed! Nose up, fellow Prii drivers. Off we go, pretending like we're the only people in the world who really 'get it'. Whatever!
hard to see the on oncoming driver with the angle of the windshield anyhow. You could try the outer half of a peace sign. Just kidding.
if you want to wave......buy a Subaru. putting our hands out the window just cuts down on our fuel economy
I had a Saabaru 92-x it was hated by by both the ultra smug Saab drivers and by the Subaru drivers also. Damn WRX Impreza wagon badge engineered as a Saab. Aloha, ED
I owned 3 subarus and never noticed any waving, maybe it's their new share the love theme. When driving my jetta tdi I would always wave and be waved to after passing in the rear view. You could not tell if it was a tdi from the front. But you felt obligated to pass once you see the rear badge and wave in acknowledgment.
There are way too many Prii here to make any sort of acknowledgment seem less than weird and awkward. For instance, the #1 vehicle in America is the Ford F-150, and perhaps you can imagine them giving each other some sort of wave, but I can't. Also, here in So. Cal, it's best not to make eye contact with anyone while driving. There are way too many drive-by's and crazy people.
the Subaru wave is more prevalent between drivers with modded Subaru's or people that are members in a Subaru car club...NASIOC old farts in Outbacks haven't got a clue
That's WHY there are some many drive-bys and crazy people. A little socialization would go a long way towards making those millions of people you jam yourself next to, a bit more friendly. :focus: My sweetie waves at every Prius she sees (even the empty ones ).
