What are you doing scratching the dash in the first place? There's no reason to touch it at all. A California mini-duster takes care of any dust on it in no time. Just sweep over every time you wash the car.

It's a huge, relatively flat expanse of plastic right in front of you, you think it should never be touched?

It gets touched, what else can I say? I've only ever cleaned it with a Cali Dash Duster, but I set my phone there for a second or my sunglasses, or the mail, or a cd, or anything.... every time I lay a finger on it it leaves a white mark. Not gouges or scratches (yet) jsut marks. A $35 dash cover is cheap insurance imo.

Yes, I think it should never be touched. It's not a good or stable place to put anything there. That's what the underbridge storage, center console compartment, sunglasses holder, glove compartments and even the passenger seat are for.

What's most important is how the dash feels about being touched. :)

Here in Phoenix, a lot of cars employ dash mats. The sun here can bleach the color of dash and over time crack the plastic. An inexpensive dash mat is well worth the cost.

What the sun does here is amazing. I bought two blue colored aluminum poles about eight feet long, to be used to hold skimmer nets. One was stored in the shade, the other in an area with sun about 50% of the day. After six months, the blue color was almost completely washed out on the one exposed to the sun.

I do not know, but I never place anything on my dash. Really I don't; I use the cup holder, the seat next to me, the rear seat of floor, or the space under the shifter. So I can't really say I know if it scratches easily, but I've never liked the looks of those dash-rugs. I'd almost rather a scratched dash lol.

I'm not driving around with stuff on my dash, but in just the 8k miles we've had it so far its already got a few marks on it. We do 20k+ a year, much of it with 3 people aboard, so I'd rather protect it then not.

I always order a dashmat for my cars. I like the look & it makes the dash seem more upscale. I always get the velour dashmat from "Dashmat" directly. :D I just received mine for the Prius in dark smoke gray. It looks great & is very soft to the touch. I hate the look of the hard plastic dash on cars & this protects the dash beautifully. I can pull mine off of my 89 MR2 & the dash still looks brand new like the day it was purchased.

Would you please post photos when you've got it installed?
Also, how does it attach on the Prius, and can it and all attachments be removed without damaging the dash (thinking about trade-in time)?

    Thanks!

I have a mat, but can't seem to get it to lie flat enough for me so didn't nail it down because from previous ones that I've had they leave a mark on the dash where you put the velcro. I would be interested in seeing if the same thing happens on the Prius dash seeing its made of a completely different material than I've seen in the past. I've taken mine off and will see how the dash itself holds up. I've had my windows tinted and use a Prius Chat Shop solar shield on the windshield.

    ebay...

I understand if you are wanting to protect the dash, but I would seriously reconsider if the only ones available are carpet.

I was looking into buying one, but I personally think the carpet covers are hideous with the centered display of the prius...but to each his own.

maybe even considering doing a vinyl one.

I ordered one for my 2009 and it is a little loose fitting in places.

Got it, sorry no pictures yet.

VERY happy with the color, the material and the general fit but it will take a few sunny days and some velcro points to get it to fit as tightly as I'd like. It's 30 degrees and snowing as I right this. :frusty:

No problem with it interfering in seeing any gauges, the nap of the carpet is quite low. It comes rolled so there's a little curling at the left and right edges that needs to settle. There are quite a few panels stitched together to follow the contours of the dash. All in all, a quality piece of work imo.

    Pics soon.

Here's the pictures. It's already laying much flatter then in these photos, but I haven't added any velcro yet. The area in front of the gauges is now perfectly flat, as is the passengers side leading edge. If we could get a few days of warmth and sunshine it would help.

The wife hates the way it looks, says she doesn't mind leaving it there to protect the dash but doesn't want me to put any velcro on so she can pull it out if she's taking coworkers to lunch or whatever.

I've explained that this defeats the purpose somewhat, and we're leaving it in for now to see if she gets used to it.

I'd go with a match to the dash top color to make it less obvious....

Thanks for posting this. I'd be interested in seeing it when it's all "buttoned down".

Sorry to say but, from what I see, I'd be inclined to side with your wife right now.
I guess I'm just too picky, but it just doesn't have a really good fitment. I've seen Dashmats in some apps that look fantastic, but that's with a less challenging shape/fit.

I'll be interested to see what GoGreenTreeHugger comes up with.

I've seen molded vinyl covers for domestic cars/trucks that fit like a second skin to the extent that they don't require any velcro or adhesive to hold tham in place. I guess that our little Prii don't sell in enough quantity to warrant the same.
