Does anyone know which Prius colors are the most popular? Which colors are the hardest to get and which colors are the easiest to get?

From what I've been told, read, forums etc Silver seems to be the color. I ordered a Silver PK 9 - 3 weeks ago. Yes dealer said a year wait and of course will notify if someone cancels which seems common. I don't know what the stock market will be doing in a year. I'm retired so it depends on that. Dave

Dianne posted these ratios for the SoCal March allocations:

    Color ratios are:
10% of all are white with gray interior.
10% of all are white with tan interior.
    29.9% are silver.
    5.1% are black with tan
    5.1% are black with gray
    5.4% are red.
    9.7% are driftwood.
    10% are tideland.
    14.8% are blue

So it seems that the Silver is quite the famous one. I have a Silver #9 and can totally see why!!!

Yup. Also means that if a person didn't choose silver as their colour of choice (and if the dealer isn't offering them other choices if they become available), they could be waiting a long, long time.

Thanks to Dave and Cybele for the info. For others about to preference Toyota told me it is making twice as many Package 9s as 6s at this point. When I called Toyota headquarters they told me they had stopped making 7s and 5s several months ago and had no idea when they would resume.

Your dealer has the pipeline report showing what the % is of colors being made. I know Silver is being made the most.

How can Toyota stop the production of 5's and 7's when pently of people have ordered these...me included...
    package 7... :cussing:

I thought this was the purpose of pre-orders and then Toyota builds to order??? If not Toyota should send us a letter notifying that builds 5&7 will have extended waits.

Note: Danny (the Admin) says that this rumor is, I quote, "B.S."

(I don't think he means "Bodacious & Satisfactory". )

I was actually referring to the elimination of portions of the #9. That was the BS rumor going around.

As far as #7s go, I'm not sure, but I do know that it does depend upon your region.

I received the information about Toyota not making the 5 and 7 packages available at the present time from Toyota headquarters for the Prius in LA(I was also told these were quite popular packages).

The latest info on the colors--this from someone in charge of Prius orders for a local dealership--is that because silver is the most popular color for cars in the US that Toyota has produced the most Priuses in this color and that, in his experience, it is the easiest color to get for his customers, followed by white. Seaside Pearl is more difficult to track down. This matches the allocation list mentioned in this thread.

My apologies, folks. Not to mention that I was mixing up what Neal Said (no more #5s or #7s in a particular region, right now) with a rumor that in 2005 models, the #7 option would become the #5 option. Mea Culpa Maxima!

Absolutely believe that the #5s or #7s might not be reaching some regions. I've heard dealers up here say that all were getting are #1s, #7s and #9s these days.

actually the dealer i ordered from said it was good that i wanted the #9 because that was mostly what they were getting.

but then they are a rural dealer and don't get a heck of a lot of cars to start with, i guess. fortunately they also don't get a heck of a lot of orders!

I work for a Toyota dealer in NJ and delivery is now at least 24 months out! I just got mine after waiting 7 months. The orders just keep coming in. The demand is unbelievable.
I wonder what changes will be made for the 05 and 06 models.
The Highlander hybrid will be in greater demand!

Those percentages of colors seem suspiciously close to multiples of five. Is Toyota building them to order, or in response to demand for particular combos of color and options, or are they building and allocating according to their guess about what will be most profitable?

The thing about that list that I posted ... it's only what Dianne figured out from one allocation and only for those allocated for SoCal.

There are so many variables that we are not aware of:
Were they allocated based on request?
Were they allocated based on production?
    Are there seasonal variations?
Are they changing depending on demand?
Are the color breakdown allocations different in different parts of the country?

The best way to tell would be if we had information about other regional allocations or perhaps national allocations. Heck, maybe some Toyota National person will get on the site and post some info.

The question that nags me is why Toyota doesn't change the color chips on their website to reflect the reality (or closer at least) of these colors?

Cybele, I agree with you re: color selection choices ands pics. They should make the changes.

As far as color mixes go, I get the most requests for silver. Tideland is #2, and seaside is #3. The rest are pretty even.

I find it odd that Toyota does not post pictures of the car in various colors on its web site. The dealers could also take pictures of the cars as they come in and share these with their befuddled customers who are trying to choose color without having seen the car in that color. PriusChat has been invaluable in making available photos.
