I agree with Codyroo. Sure, the highway improvement isn't as high as the city improvement but the Prius still has the highest highway mileage of current sold mass market non-EVs in CR testing and EPA testing. The Mazda3 nor Elantra even made it at Most fuel-efficient cars and Best & worst cars review, best city/highway mpg. From Best & worst cars review, fuel-efficient vehicles. The Elantras they tested got 33 or 39 mpg on the highway. The Mazda3s they tested got 39, 40 or 34 mpg on the highway. Prius got 55 mpg on the highway. Mazda3 is also a compact car while the Prius is a midsized, per Side-by-Side Comparison.
The fueleconomy.gov listing is misleading. It shows a picture of a Mazda 3 hatchback (94.6 passenger, 17 cargo), but it lists the specs for the compact car (94.1/11.8). The hatchback is above the 110 cu ft threshold for midsized cars. However, the Gen 3 Prius has more cargo volume.
Two words of advice to you: "Be ready" I am an adrenalin junkie that drove a 1000cc 2 cylinder motorcycle with heaps of torque and speed and I also flew paragliders. I sold my motorcycle to buy a 2007 Prius after I drove my wife's Prius last year during the Easter holiday trip. I have never looked back since! Be ready to be surprised, amazed, challenged, changed, converted, informed, confused, rocked, humbled, shocked, ashamed, suspicious, scared, embarrassed... And then watch your family, friends and colleagues go through the same when they heard what you did!
I could not create another thread as I am new here. Also, this thread that I am posting, I found verey relevant to my question as well. I hope the thread owner OKs it ;-) I am interested to a Prius. I got two options: 1) Buy a 2011 Advance (that is what it is called here in Norway- does not include many optional features ) or 2) Buy 2009 Premium (Includes all the optional features). The 2011 model is brand new and costs around 50K USD, while the 2009 model with 21 km on it and includes wintre tires (price 1500 USD), costs 45k USD. I would like to know which one you would prefer? I am wondering about the things that 2011 model can have vs 2009 or vice versa. I appreciate your reply on this. Bests, MAli.
Welcome to PriusChat. Sorry, but I'm not familiar with non-U.S. Prius models and I could not find anything online regarding Norway models. We do have PriusChatters from Norway, so someone will help
