Man for that price, I'd spend a few hundred more and have Project μ BBK and be one off

 

Those K-sports do look nice but man are they pricey!

If I have money to spend on these crazy price mods, I would not have bought the Prius. Sometimes for look only is not worth the money, time and effort, especially true for the Prius since braking is mostly regenerated to charge the battery. The OEM brake is MORE than enough for the car.

I could drive for 2 years spending on gas for that money. Well to each his/her own, it's your money anyway. Just my opinion, no judgment.

 

Yeah no doubt that is a normal price but I'm not a big fan of ksport stuff if I have the choice. I've been talking with stoptech to see if they would be interested in making a BBK but the market interest isn't there. I'll see if I can get in touch with Project Mu but they're based in Japan IIRC so it may be tough to get a test fit here in the US

 

@vnhk - I def understand where you're coming from man and trust me, I hear it a lot from my buddies. I could just go out and buy a better car but there's no fun in that for me. I like the idea of turning the everyday family eco commuter car into something that no one expects. Its just part of who I am I guess; a lifestyle choice if you will. I know I may not speak for everyone who mods, but for me, building a car and turning into what I invision is much more satisfying than buying something already made. Nothing wrong with that but there's more character and connection when you do it yourself. My cars have always become a part of my person =)

I'm not seeing where the linked company is offering a kit specifically for the Prius,. Was it more of a verbal assurance they could do it?

Yeah, I'd love to have a higher-performing (as in a better-gripping) BBK upgrade as well. These brakes seem to fade way too fast for my liking...

 

One note on KSport, D2 and other names of this taiwanese brand (all are the same just different colors, orange, purple, silver, red, just another "brand"). A dealer must order the minimum amount of a specific brake kit. If there is a low (or even almost zero) demand for a Prius kit then you'll probably never get it. Only a dealer that believes in a larger market will order 20 kits for an example. The kits look nice but I could not be convinced on quality when I tested these on other cars.

 

another point that was brought up to me earlier today concerning prius brakes:

-bbk's and upgraded stainless steel brake lines-

a BBK will definitely look good and do it's intended job, but theres not much we can do to defeat/hack the ratio of regenerative to friction braking, and when/how that occurs.

also, i was talking to the SSR wheels folks and they suggested that stainless steel brake lines are their first recommendation when people start talking brake upgrades....a certified toyota hybrid tech here on PC explained that this wouldn't do much of anything, considering prius brakes are brake-by-wire. pedal feel is pure software, so a mushy/spongy pedal is programmed to be so, regardless of the quality of your brake components. brake response is software based as well. it seems, a bbk would only be effective in a panic'd stop, the majority of even a very spirited drive is still braking-via-engine-based regeneration.

 

I have no interest in a BBK, but you could start with this vendor.

Shawn, The last post I could find on a big brake kit was yours back in 10-28-10. Did you every find an affordable aftermarket "Brembo" brake upgrade? I just purchased a 2010 package 5 and want to do a few upgrades, starting with brakes. Any other P-Chat members input would be great! One may ask WHY but if you never had to stop like a Porsche, you wouldn't understand that feeling of deceleration!

BBK is more of bling factor in my opinion as quality brake pads and rotors will be as effective or even more effective in stopping the car with improved fade resistance. Why add extra weight (easily ~20+ lbs/corner) on a car designed for 50mpg?
