Can I Upgrade the Basic Stereo on the 2006

    I'm torn between a package 1 and a 3 or 4. I can certainly live without the SKS, RC, and vehicle stability control, but can I live without being able to hook my Ipod into the stereo? I'd rather pay the extra money for leather seats quite frankly and get a package 1. My questions is, will I be able to upgrade the stereo. I'm worried that with all the high tech software that might cause problems? Some dealers have said it is fine, others say it's risky? What do you savy Prius people say?

    I think the dealers are pulling your leg. There are a dozen integration possibilities out there for the IPOD. I'm going to get the vais product once I get get group pricing. It integrates seamlessly with the MFD.

    If you are only looking at the Ipod, you can go to your local Best Buy and get integration options for $200 bucks (Dennison IceLink).

    Don't let them bamboozle you.

    I am going to upgrade the stock speakers to Infinity Kapps. I find the stock speakers (single disc package 4 non-jbl) sound like they are underwater. Not surprising considering how quiet this car is.

    Thanks. That's good to hear. I've seen all the threads about the fancy stereo upgrades and hitech sound gear but it's all over my head. Let's see if I can get a package #1.....I might just get the #4 because I won't stand the wait for the #1. I just don't see the need to turn the car on without removing the keys from my pocket or to see what's behind me when I'm in reverse. I'd rather have the leather seats.

    now my question is would they be offering upgrades to the '04-'05 stereos since they now offer mp3 and bluetooth without nav in the '06. (dont really need nav in hawaii). i'd love to have that upgrade... hmm, same with the back-up camera... would they offer this post as an upgrade to us '04-'05 owners?
