JBL/Nav Pckg #6 adding a sub and amp

    I was trying to search through the pages here for a definite answer, but I had no luck. I recently had a professional change out the stock JBL 6-disc unit with an aftermarket. I (obviously) lost the ability to use the steering wheel - luckily the AC still works properly, but I wanted to add an amp and sub. Originally, I was just going to wire the amp directly into the HU without touching the JBL amp. I was wondering, though, since I no longer have the JBL HU, can I take out the JBL amp and replace it with the aftermarket one? (Alpine MRP-M500) If not, what would be the best set-up for my car? Thank you very much!

    If any one is aware of a slim subwoofer version which has soft bass and can be installed in a 2008 prius, kindly post here.

    The ONE I've used (passive), fit on top ofthe plastic trunk floor.
    This Kenwood model is active and fits under the same panel.

    You can design a VERY shallow box for this new Pioneer speaker. My buddy's shop has been installing them in motorcycle side bags and they quake!

    3" mounting depth and an enclosure size of .35cu.ft.!

    That is if you want real bass. Otherwise the smaller self-powered subs like the Kenwood and Boss units will work also. I should also add that the sound quality on this sub is pretty amazing as described by Terry SooHoo, co-owner of the famous Paradyme Sound & Vision.

    And yes, you can take out the amp, but that MRP-M500 is just going to drive the sub, not your mids & tweeters. You'd be better off with a good 3, 4 or 5 channel amp. 3 channels if you only care about boosting the front & sub (front L, R + Sub = 3ch). 4 channels can do the same, 2 channels for front L & R, 2 channels bridged for the sub. 5 channels costs more of course but does the 4 corners and your sub in a nice tidy package.
    Many people will say there's no point in putting amp cash into the rear door speakers but it's a matter of preference & budget. Don't get stuck on Alpine, tho their PDX-F4 & PDX-5 are great, there are tons of other options.
