All LED upgrade.

    This is going to be a short post about my recent LED upgrade. I changed out all the bulbs except for the HIDs and the fog lights. HIDs are all ready efficient and I dont use the fogs. My fogs are actually covered up by my grille block.

    Here is what I bought.

    Four 7440 amber 68 LEDs for the turn signals.

    Two 7440 white 68 LEDs for the reverse light.

    Six T10 white 5 LEDs for the tail, parking, and license plate lights.

    Nine of these. This came with a T10 adapter and a spring loaded adjustable thing for the other lights like the cargo and door lights.

    I also bought a LED relay so the turn signals blink normally.


    Overall I'm happy with everything. The LEDs dont throw the light like the incandescents but to me they look just as bright or in the case of the interior lights MUCH brighter.


    Here are some pictures. Sorry no comparison shots. Everything is LED.

    Reverse lights showing how much they light up. To me they do just as good as the regular bulbs.

    Cargo light. Had to bend the cargo light light holder a bit to fit the adapter.

    The reason I went with the white LEDs for the parking and tail lights was because the red LEDs were not as bright plus they kind of stayed on when you unlock the car. There is some kind of small voltage present for some reason. The white LEDs did not come on at all and thats why I used them. The amber LEDs for the parking light were just not as bright as the white LEDs.

    The 9 LED units get pretty hot but that does not effect the plastic lenses as the incandescent bulbs get just as hot or hotter.

    I purchased everything from Ebay. Some came from China and some from the USA. Just depends on what was cheaper.

    So far I love the new LEDs. Now I just have to convert my Insight.

    Cool. How did you measure the brightness of the whites versus the reds?

    With my eyes. I know not very accurate. I'm just going by what looks good to me. It still looks red and as far as I could tell they are just as good or ever so slightly worse than the incandescents.

    In that case, I will just reiterate my recommendation (for new people here) that generally red lights should have red LEDs, even with the red lens. Glad yours worked out well for you.

    How do the turn signals show up in bright, direct sunlight? I wouldn't mind going to LED turn lamps since I use the front turn signals as DRLs, but most of the conversions I have seen don't look bright enough to be safe.

    The turn signal LEDs are bright enough in the sun for turn signals but not for DRLs.

    I did this last year and noticed the low voltage as well. It goes away when I lock the doors (while they are unlocked -- doing it while they are already locked doesn't help) or by itself after a minute or so...so I left it alone *shrug*
    I'm guessing there just needs to be something in line with more resistance, haha.

    I've spent way too much money on LEDs though -- I've replaced some of them with brighter ones, and other times I've purchased a bunch for new projects only to find that they won't work with what I had in mind (such as getting dual colored blinkers that double as reverse lights).

    Be careful with your wallet!
