    I've seen similar stuff before. Apparantly its to do with the high speed flapping of a bugs wings contradicting with the scan lines of the camera.

    So its a normal bug and not some weird alien thing unknown to science. Sorry :)

    Either the light source is pulsed at a fairly high frequency (IR LEDs?), or the frame exposure time is very long, creating a strobe effect. So it seems that the light source is not ordinary incandescent.
