Are your seats comfortable?

I'm 6'0" 215. Took a 3500 mile roadtrip this winter. This was the most comfortable I have ever been in a vehicle.

 

Headrest too far forward can be a sign seatback is little too far forward. If you recline a notch or two, the headrest will be away from your head. It shouldn't be jutting into your head when driving. It is an active headrest which comes up and forward in a rear end collision.

The driver's seat is very cushy in 3rd gen. A small round knob at left front of seat as found on FJ Cruiser, to change seat bottom tilt would help a number of people.

For the person who used brackets to slide back further - you must have very long arms to reach the wheel.

 

Just back from a 1K trip. Comfortable all around. Most speeds at 75 and Prius held its ground really well; AC on all the time, avg 49MPG.
Seat - thanks to the lumbar support, cool leather, and the add of washers under the front rail attach to the floor for tilt/better thigh support --- seat was quite fine. Of course would be better with more adj of the wheel and finite/power seat control - but I have been pleased with the seat.

 

Actually if you turn them around they do lock in place just fine. I'm 4' 11" and the headrest in any car I've owned has pushed my head forward at a very uncomfortable angle. When I turn the headrest around the bottom part that is flush with the seat is actually where my head is and it is much safer and more comfortable that way.

I've also had tailbone issues so when my husband installed the leather I had him cut out a wedge from the back of the seat bottom (that is directly under my tailbone) so there isn't so much pressure. It actually helps more than I thought it would!

Can't help with low back though...my aftermarket lumbar support does the trick just fine for me.

I did the same exact thing only a couple of days after purchasing my Prius. I flipped them headrests around backward! I could not stand them jabbing into the back of my head, nor could any of my family. Unfortunately, this is still my one car that has the most things that I'd have the manufacturer think about differently for their next go-around, if I had any say! But I still love my Prius! lol

I am 5'6" and the seats are really uncomfortable the leather seems fake and my lower back hearts. It seems like gen 2 with leather had more comfortable seats, 2012 sienna with leather seats also very comfortable, clk550 with infinite adjustments has the best seats. I need to find a solution it unacceptable to have such poor seats in mid 30K car. I need to find a way to fix it or I will have to trade it in for something more comfortable. I drive to work for 1hour and 30min every day and I cannot take it anymore.

 

I agree. My 2011 Prius III cloth driver's seat is quite uncomfortable compared to the driver's seat in the 2004 Honda Accord coupe that I just traded for it. Same goes for the driver's seat in my wife's 2008 Accord. Both have angle adjustments so that the front of the seat cushion can be raised. Perhaps an inch high shim can be placed under the front of the Prius seat track. I'll be checking that possibility since seat back adjustments just don't cut it and there is no adjustable lumbar support.

Paying $1k - $2k more for the next package up seemed silly just to get the power driver's seat with more adjustments. Oh well.

My Prius has only been on the road for five weeks and I'll be taking my first multi-hour drive later this week. I'll soon know how my back reacts to a protracted drive.

 

if only the steering wheel would extend an extra few inches. that would be awesome. I'm 6 foot 4 and I have plenty of leg room since the seat goes back far enough. Problem is that then the steering wheel is too far away.

Yes the Prius seats are not very comfortable on long ( over 3 hours) trips. I had a 2009 Camry LE prior to my Prius and had not back or butt aches. I have since added a lumbar cushion and seat cushion from Bed, Bath and Beyond. They are not very pretty, but solved my back and butt aches. I put on about 5,000 miles a month, driving through out the SE region. I have a 2011 model III-it is a great car and I love it, the driver's seat could be improved, but for most commuters, it is probably just fine.

 

I have three options now. Trade the car in for 2012 xle hybrid camry, install lexus seats into the prius or try to tune out the pain. I use to have lexus a few years ago and the seats were comfortable. Surprisingly the seats in a prius are big, the width is the same as my 2012 sienna. I can have a shop make some custom brackets for me and I can buy 2010 lexus seats for $600 and have brackets made for $400. I was told by a shop that if I get into the accident that insurance company might refuse to pay for bodily injury since I modified a seat with an airbag in it. I sold my clk550 to buy a prius, seats in clk550 were pure heaven compared prius seats. I think I regret purchasing a prius I thought that if get a prius 5 with ATP and moon roof that a prius somehow would feel like a luxury car. The car is not luxury at all lots of plastic, poor suspension, fake leather and horrible seats. Its an economy car with lots of technology and very good MPG. I can easily average 50mpg

 

I hate to say this but this is my second brand new Toyota in 10 years with bad ergonomics and uncomfortable seats. I am a physically fit 5' 8" 160lb late 30s male and frequent the gym 2-3 times a week and I for the life of me can't understand where all of the various butt and upper thigh pains are coming from. Since my last new Toyota which was a 2003 corolla which I traded in after 3 months (due to the seats) I have owned the following new cars between my wife and myself:

2005 Honda civic
2008 Honda civic
2010 Honda civic
2010 Volkswagen golf wagon tdi

And now a 2012 Prius ii.... Of all the the cars i have listed above I have never felt one ounce of pain on any drive ever. It is almost incomprehensible to me how Toyota can produce a car with such unfomfortale seats? The prius Isn't exactly cheap here in Canada. I paid 27000 before tax. I think Toyota needs to invest more time and energy into driver comfort.. Prior to purchasing the Prius lift back I did test drive the Prius c and I found the seats to be very comfortable but the ride and power were not at the level of the liftbak. Unfortunately while I was slightly uncomfortable on the test drive with the liftback I thought it was just because the seat was not adjusted properly. I should have trusted my instincts... I love the car for what it represents in terms of fuel economy and technology but I can't seem to get comfortable enough to drive it for more than one hour...

 

Best bet is trade in for Prius III with power seats. I have the same problem with the Prius III seats, a literal pain in the butt after 30 minutes or less. Drove a Prius III with the power seats and they were comfortable and had infinite adjustment. I was looking at trading in the new Prius3/3 for a Prius 3/4 with the power seats (and heads up display and auto/on/off headlights and the 7" nav) but waited a big too long. 1200 miles on the car.

But the power seats in the Prius III are the only real fix.

 

So far I no complaints about the comfort of the seats. I like having the full power seat on the driver side.

 

After 6 years of ownership, the uncomfortable seats are one of our main gripes about the car. I feel like I am getting poked in the lower back as soon as I sit and my wife complains they are hard on her tailbone. Rented a Chevy Malibu while in Maui and circumnavigated the island with the car one day. After 12 hrs no one had any issues with the seats. All of us also noted how much quieter the car was than our Prius. Have they improved this in the newest model or the V?
