I sent my Charger and BMS in for recall on jack's request as the charger and BMS have been updated. Enginer is sending me back BMS 3.3. I have not received it from them yet, but I was curious about how this BMS performs compared to previous versions. I had BMS 3.0 and it was performing well, until I had an issue with it. I'm leaning toward getting the Pacific EV BMS if I don't end up with a well performing Enginer BMS.

Does anyone know anything about this BMS?
How does it compare to version 3.2?
How does it compare to version 3.0?

    Thanks,
    Stockton

I never heard of 3.3 if you haven't got your bms back then how do you know it's 3.3?

I spoke to enginer just the other day about my Bms and there was no mention of an update to the Bms are you sure it is not 3.2 they are updating you to?

I have not installed one with 3.3 yet.
Check back with Enginer and report back to us what they say.

Enginer's email indicates that they shipped BMS version 3.3, when I enquired further about what has changed from BMS 3.2 to 3.3, they responded that it has improved accuracy (I assume they mean more accurate battery voltage monitoring) and more refined balancing. I won't know for sure until I receive it, but a newer version was mentioned on the Enginer boards a couple weeks ago. (which is one reason I sent my BMS 3.0 back.). It would be good to hear what anyone else finds out about it so we know what to expect.

    Thanks,
    Stockton

More likely that you will be the first one reporting about the newest version. Start sharpening your pencil.....

Agreed. Much of the feedback from changes comes in from the field.

maybe I should send mine back because it keeps charging C13 and wacked the whole pack out of balance. I drained C13 with a 10watt 5ohm resister. it draws .66 amps for 36 hours. my packs capacity increased from 2.2kw to 3.6kw afterwards. now C12 and C14 are causing LVC.

Cp Have you talked or tried PacificEv BMS?? I have noticed a difference on a new kit by switching from BMS 16d3.2 to PAC BMS

I'm using MiniBMS. If I had waited a week before buying the MiniBMS, I would have bought the PEV's BMS. I'm also buying a Mastech linear power supply to further balance the pack.

Further update I posted this question on enginers site and got a response from Jack himself. He stated that there will be 50 test mules basically that will determine if 3.3 works :)

Just installed mine yesterday, where my cell8 would always cause hvc,
it drained off as the rest of the pac continued, heard a bunch of relays
clicking during the process. seems to work so far. Haven't driven with it.

Interesting. My current 3.2 keeps trying to over charge. I was told it is a sticky relay in the BMS. They are out right now, but I was told that they will send me one in a week or two. I hope it works for me too!

Why did Jack use the word test mules and not test guinea pigs?

Guinea pigs (paying test pilots)was "used" almost 3 years ago when the Enginer product was introduced....
    Now things have change.

So in conclusion I could say that ver 3.0 is OK to use. Ver3.1 is no good, ver3.2 is OK along as you do not balance and Ver 3.3 is the latest and is more accurate and the jury is still out determining by field trials whether it performs well.

    Hello Everyone,
In another thread I am called the Enginer Crusader. So in the interest of full disclosure Let me first say that I am an authorized Enginer installer. I have chosen to stop doing installs at this point due to the additional repair that has been needed on so many systems. For customers wanting the Enginer system, I refer them to PacificEV or 3ProngPower.

I do have 2 systems that have in the past, and continue to run well after a year and a half. I have used or tested all the Enginer Supplied BMS's.

    Now back on topic.
I do not recommend the BMS16D V3.3. At this time I do not recommend any of the Enginer supplied BMS's. I choose not to publicly say bad things about any PHEV company. If you want to discuss details of my experience with the v3.3 then we can do that in a private Email Or you can contact your Enginer Installer.

If you want a recommendation for a BMS then you need to have detailed discussions with a knowledgeable person about your particular system. Every Enginer system is different. Many times you will not get good advice on a forum because those giving the advice generally are making assumptions because they do not have enough details on your particular system.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Having this statement coming from Dan Lander "The Enginer Crusader" says a lot about the BMS16D. I will go further and say the BMS16D is a cell killer. I too will state that I choose not to publicly say bad things about any PHEV company - does this statement give me protection from prosecution? Being the president of the Faulty BMS Club I just did not want to be outdone by Dan.

To call Dan a Crusader implies that he went around killing non-believing people in the name of Christianity (or the Enginer BMS16D). Although slightly exaggerated this now means that Dan may have renounced the BMS16D and joined the rest of us non-believers.

The new version 3.3 needs time to prove itself.

I just say everyone should get the PacificEv Bms and not worry about battery management anymore

I would never have considered Dan a crusader. Rather, he tells it like he sees it and always backs it up with data. Seems pretty impartial as far a I'm concerned.
