I just purchased the new unit and as far as I can tell I will need to buy a Scosche TA2103B mount/faceplate and wiring harness. But, what I'm not sure about is the device that allows you to still use the steering wheel controls.

Can someone explain how the controls work with the stock, non-jbl, radio? I've some of these converters that work via bluetooth somehow and others seem to be hard-wired like the PAC SWI-PS. Is the bluetooth what communicates with the steering cvontrols or with the head unit? Here are the links I found:

I've found the documentation on how to take the dash apart and all the wiring stuff, it's just the steering wheel controls I'm still a little perplexed about.

    Thanks!

You will need one of the interface modules. It needs to be hardwired, it doesn't communicate via bluetooth between the head unit and the steering wheel buttons.

The TA2103B if your best choice Dash Kit for a DD HU and includes p/n 6096B to retain A/C controls and (factory?) AUX jack. SWI-PS is best choice for a Pioneer HU to retain Radio and reportedly Phone(BT) controls "at the steering wheel". Check for the correct resistor, if needed. Scosche TA02B, TA02BCB or Metra 70-1761 are the adapter harnesses for HU to car. Pioneer CD-IU50V is the harness for iPod/iPhone to HU. If you choose to add an amp later, remember the pre-outs from this HU are 4 volts per (important). Be advised the the AVIC-X920BT uses MSN for Traffic, and this service will end Jan 2012.

    Thanks for the info all...

I have another question now, I'm having a hard time getting any audio to play, the unit appears to be working, but there is no sound coming from the speakers.

I've only done a temporary connection for now, I basically have the constant 12V, acc 12v, gnd and the connections for the two front speakers. I'm using a BHA1761 wiring harness. I plan on reading up on the speed sensor and backup switch and possibly bypassing them, any tips on these would be greatly appreciated as well.

I've read about the blue/white wire stuff for turning on the amp, but I'm very confused as too what they are really talking about. The only blue/white wire i have is coming from the new HU and the manual specifically states it is for remote amps to turn them on. I'm getting the hint that I am to somehow turn on/enable the amp in the HU, I'm guessing changes the audio outs from pre-amp to amplified lines.

Does someone have a wire for wire connection diagram or list of the my HU to the toyota connector? I would like it to be using only the wire colors on the toyota connection to the wire colors of the HU connector, I don't care about the bha1761's wire colors, I'll figure that out.

    Thanks in advance!

Ok, I figured out my sound issue...I was completely over looking the speaker wires coming from the small black connector, I was using the RCA pre-amp connectors..duh

Now I'm down to bypass or not the speed sensor and/or brake sensor and running the wires for my bazooka sub.

Do them now and you'll never look back. I did the brake mod with my Kenwood, speed mod wasn't required. ww.avic411.com is your friend with a Pioneer.
