Found a 2008 Touring Edition at a local dealership w/ 52K miles w/ the following options:

    • Bisque Leather
    • Navigation
    • Super White Paint
    • Back-up Camera
Asking price is $21,975. What do you think about offering $19K.

Since it has leather and nav, does this mean it has Package 6??
    Thanks for your help!

Yes, it's a package 6. Package 5 is everything w/o leather. 19k is a good offer. Probably won't bite, but a good place to start.

Here's the 2008 Prius eBrochure which lists all the standard equipment and option packages for the Standard and Touring Edition Prius:

Assuming the leather isn't aftermarket, it should be a Package 6. But note that people have reported A LOT of instances where dealers and sellers falsely claim that it's a Touring Edition. In your case, I would check that it has:

    1. The Touring Edition 16" wheels.
    2. Front HID and fog lights.
    3. Leather steering wheel.
    4. And if you want to get down and dirty, look beneath the rear bumper to see the Touring Edition's rear shocks and springs - the Touring rear shocks will have red and pink stripes and its rear springs will have a dab of blue paint; while the Standard rear shocks will have light blue and red stripes and its rear springs will have a dab of green paint. See pictures in my post in the following thread:

It definitely has the Touring wheels and fog lights. The ad did not mention HIDs. Can I tell from looking at the posted pics if the steering wheel is leather?

Depends on the picture. Factory leather steering wheels look factory.

If it has the 16" Touring wheels and front fog lights, I'm 99% certain that it's a Touring. You can confirm the other stuff when you go check it out.

To summarize, a 2008 Touring Edition Prius with Option Package 6 will have all of the following items that a 2008 Standard Prius in one of the lower option packages will not have:

    1. Touring Edition 16" Wheels and tires with full wheel covers (not just trim rings).

    2. Rear shocks with pink and red stripes, and rear springs with a dab of blue paint.

    3. Larger Rear Spoiler (though it might be hard to see the difference).

    4. Larger diameter front and rear Stabilizer Bars (which I don't think will be detectable to the naked eye).

    5. Front HIDs and fog lights (which will also be on higher option package Standard Priuses).

    6. Factory Leather interior and steering wheel (which will also be on the highest option package Standard Priuses).

I think it is a nice car but still having a hard time with the Price. I would say prices will not go up any more so if you could wait 4 or 5 months you will get a much better deal. But if you gotta have one now 19 is a good place to start.

gas prices have dropped to give us Americans a false sense of security...make no mistake about it, gas prices are going to rise again and when that happens the Prius will once again become the most saleable, marketable, price gouging car out there...

2009 Toyota Prius Hatchback 5dr HB

This is still available and a reputable Toyota dealer Would cost you much less to buy it and transport for less than you would offer.

Really like the Touring model w/ all the bells and whistles.

I guess it might be a bad time to buy this car, but it's really the one I want. Just worried, if I decide to wait it out:
    a) won't be able to find a fully loaded touring
    b) gas prices get worse

Sounds like you know what you want. Not every buyer here can say that. Go for it then. Like I said, 19k -21k really isn't a bad price in today's weather.

if it helps, when i was prius shopping, there were NO fully loaded priuses available. I did come across 2 in my price range and 1 was sold the day it was posted on cars.com. My seaside pearl prius was still available but I knew it would move fast so I went down and test drove it immediately. I fell in love and went home to think over the whole deal. I called salesman back 30min after arriving home and gave him my cc# over phone to hold the car...

if you like the car buy it and don't look back. Fully loaded priuses are rare around NY to buy, although I see plenty on the road. The tourings are next to impossible to find around here.

I agree that the price is likely good. Local (LA Area) dealers are advertising higher prices for the Prius (used) lately. Six months ago, they were lower, but if it is in good condition, you should get it.

Do you think a car dealership will let me take it to a mechanic to do an inspection??

Oh I thought this was from a certified preowned Toyo dealership. Yes, doesn't hurt to bring it to a mechanic if youre this close to purchasing.

well if they don't, they might lose out on a sale...

make sure you run carfax and check to see the service history. Any dealer service is listed on carfax.
