for me, the increase in HP and responsiveness when I went from 87 to 89 shell v power was well worth the $.20/gallon more. After all on a 10gallon fillup, its only $2.00 more

I'm sure you understand that this kind of anecdotal evidence is only meaningful if you drove the same route under the same, controlled, traffic and weather conditions. Otherwise, it would be like someone driving my car to the next town and complaining that a Prius only gets 33 mpg (or bragging that it gets 63 mpg).

I'll give u a story yesterday for some reason i put sunoco 87 in same route and of course the wind in Florida has been crazy. I averaged about 45.6 about 350 miles. I said never again, today I put back 89 mpg back to 49.8. the cost diference is 11 cents x 8 gallons. Total 88 cents more. 45.6 X 8 = 364 49.8 X 8 = 398 398- 364 = 34 88 cents gave me 34 more miles to travel. If it cost 3.80 to travel 49.8 I would say even though I spent 88 cents more I saved $1.50 might not be alot however I am not losing using 89.

Update: 366002 Sorry but I disagree with u. Yes for driving the same route Agree, however being that I drive my car when Im not working 89 by far gives me better performance, however If my wife drives my car I cannot expect her to get the same performance because she drives differently than I do. And let me say I am not promoting any specific gas company. I get nothing out of it. Im just sharing my experience with the community.

I have my mine set on Royal Purple, have not tried it. I guess because of the price. I am not sure if oil can give any type of mpg increase. HOWEVER I am willing to take one for the team and spend the extra 10 - 15 dollars, to find out. Have not seen anyone on here who has tried recently. If any one has tried and would like to share their experience, let me know. If not most likely next week monday I'll give it a try and post the results. Hey Brownsnoutuck in regards to oil burning im at 3250 since oil change, and have about 3 ounces left in a 12 ounce container. I'll keep u posted, im at 368000 still going strong. Im also hoping that if Royal Purple is all that, maybe it will slow down my oil burning. Anyway we shall see.

What does burning oil have to do with MPG?

I don't know if you answered this one: When did you changed first time the transmission oil? What was the mileage?

I think you clicked on the wrong thread...this thread is about achieving 300K+, not MPG's

UPDATE: 368850 OK here we go. Changed oil today brought ROYAL PURPLE 5w-30, purolator filter 14477. Here are my baselines to report on using mobil 1 high mileage synthetic. 1. Oil burning about 20 ounces at 5000 miles. 2. above 70 mph average around 47 mpg. 3. above 60 mph average around 48-49. 4. Never really achieved above 50 mpg at 604 miles round trip. TOTAL COST with tax 4 quarts plus filter $42.75 at advance auto. Mobil 1 at walmart 5 quarts plus filter 32.00. Total loss 10.00 plus 1 quart at 8.99 for a total of 18.00. My comparisons are based on 604 round trip miles.

I don't see any problem with Royal Purple and I'm sure it will keep on protecting your engine just fine. However I doubt that you will see any performance or fuel efficiency gains from the RP compared with the M1.

I'm interested in the effect, if any, of Royal Purple on the oil burning. Not that I consider 20 ounces lost every 5000 miles a big problem on an engine with 370,000 miles!

brownsnoutuk, are you burning oil at all?

Can not accurately give an update, I completed 600 miles however, the wind, rain, lightning we had was extremely crazy, therefore I cannot tell if there was any effect at all. I did however average about 46.1 up from 43.5 thats how bad it was. Trying to hypermill was not an option. Did not check the oil level to see if there is any loss, I will check it when i reach 1000. Hopefully today wont be as bad. Keep u posted.

That sounds promising. I usually drop a few MPG's in bad windy rainy weather.

Watching this one with interest. :D

Just wondering, what brand and grade of oil are you feeding it?
