I recently got a surface window pit. The rock did not completely crack the windshield but it did chip off the top layer of the glass. The size is about the tip of a box pen. There are two of them. Is this something that needs to be repaired ?

A lot of insurance companies will pay for that repair with no deductible because it can save them the expense of a new windshield later. Check your insurance company first. If they won't pay, it's still worth paying the $40-$50 that Bisco mentioned.
