Public transport is the tip of the iceberg

You have a lot more to worry about ...
    Cutlery handled by a waiter
Doors you have to touch to open
    Rails on stairs
So called 'new' books that others have handled
    The fuel pump
    ... ... ....
    The list is endless

IMO, there is a strong line between loaner and rental. A loaner car is given when you bring your car in for service work that would take longer than 30min-1hour. If you care enough about your car to pay the dealer to fix it, chances are you aren't beating on your car or the loaner.

A rental is taken by Joe Schmoe who just needs car and doesn't give a care about it....There are some who actually care about rentals and some who don't. Most don't.

I agree and I'm glad you made that commonly overlooked distinction.

So is this a bold joke I'm somehow missing?

Anyway, to the OP: If you can find how long the car has been sitting with the dealer you will have a better idea finding how much he bought it for and whether he really wants to sell it.

If they bought it within the last two months during this price spike, it's unlikely you'll be satisfied with their bottom line price. It's possible they have had it for longer and bought it for $14000... In which case you should check whether the 12 V battery has been disconnected or has been rotting. It's about $200 to replace.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I got the car tonight! Woohoo. I probably wasn't as aggressive as I could have been, but I did have some good comebacks to his arguments, didn't feel too flustered, and feel like I got a pretty decent deal. 48.6 MPG on the drive home from the dealership....gotta love it. :)

Actually I worry about your ignorance regarding people "allowed to speak other languages with zero reprecushion" when you as a native speaker can't even spell.

    Is that irony clearer now?
