I hit a curb lost a tire and it wasn't covered in my 25K free service.
So, what is covered just routine maintenance? I know that at 15K they change the cabin air filter. Thanks FishHawk.

The 25k service is basically a tire rotation - no oil change. A tire lost to a curb is not a warrantable item with any auto manufacturer. My 15k service will be coming up soon - I think I'll get my own cabin filter and change it myself. Seems easy enough and I'll save some $$!

My selling dealer told me that they were able to get engine and cabin filters covered at the 15k service for some 2010 models. Not sure how they pulled this off, but I would definitely check with them first.

    Questions like this baffle me!!!

Let me rephrase the question. “I was not paying attention and I hit a curb with my car. Do you think Toyota should cover it?â€

You should have to pay double as a lesson. Get off your cell phone or whatever was distracting you and pay attention to curbs, people, pets and other inanimate objects.

Judgeless I was not on my cell phone as you assumed. It was a brand new curb and I misjudged it. Yeah , I know you never do this stuff.;)
All I was asking if there was a road hazard on tires covered by the 25K maintenance. FishHawk

I'm pretty sure there's no road hazard on the OEM tires. And any defect warranty is typically by the tire manufacturer. Look at the paper work you (likely) got: Owners Manual, the warranty/service booklet and tire manufacturer's warranty pamphlet.

Places like Costco have pretty lenient road hazard policy, once you've bought from them. Just to keep you coming back I think.

Aren't new car tire warranties usually covered by the tire manufacturers?

Bottom line, for those of us who rotate our own tires (winter/summer changeovers), the vaunted two-year service comes down to two oil changes and they're supposed to look at a bunch of stuff :whoo:

Following up on my cynical "Free Maintenance" = two free oil and filter changes... I see in the manual where the 5K maintenance includes, "Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis and body."

I'm tempted to loosen something obvious but nonessential and see if they catch it.

More to the point, no road test, no OBD results... we owners do the road testing, and if we're curious, we can get a ScanGuage, ScanTool, etc.

If you drive 30k miles a year, it is not even "One Year Service"

There is no road hazard protection. When we were all sat down to sign the old paperwork they gave most the option to purchase a tire/rim protection plan. I bought it on one of our older cars, and it was awesome (got a nail in the tire, and they replaced it free of charge. Bill was some $300 when I saw the invoice they were sent).. So I got the same coverage on the Prius. Unless you bought this coverage though there is no road hazard protection on your tires so they would not replace it under the standard Toyota warranty.. In my opinion this tire/rim coverage (I've never paid more than $500 for it) is the only extra I would get other than the Toyota Platinum warranty.

From sad experience I can tell you there is no road hazard warranty. I found out when I ran over something and ruined a tire when the car had 900 miles on it. I was lucky to find a replacement tire that matched, was unlucky that I found it only at a Toyota dealer.

Besides curb shots, people also believe things like windshilds cracked by stones and parking lot dings are also covered by the manufacturer's warranties.
