looking to buy a used 2010 prius but have been told that these have had more problems than any other year of prius. Has anyone else heard this and have had bad experiences with 2010...My 2006 Prius has been great to me afraid to get rid of a good thing...Thanks to all who respond.

I have the first 2010 Prius delivered to the NE region and have not had a problem with it since delivery in June of 2009.

I'm sure if you dig deep enough and long enough you will find someone who's had a bad experience with a 2010. Meanwhile, it will be 2 years with my 2010, bought new in June 2009 and I just love the car. The only legit problems I've heard of are a few rattles.

So who told you the 2010 has more problems than other MY's? Why are you looking at a used 2010? If you can wait, wait. Wait for production & supply to normalize. Prices will slide. FWIW my 2006 had ABS failure so it had more problems than my 2010. IMO, most Prius problems can be traced to the nut behind the steering wheel.

Zero problems with my 2 year old 2010, other than the ABS recall, which was not a real problem and led to some bogus reliability ratings on Consumer Reports.

Source? Do they own a Prius?

If you're concerned, then don't buy a 2010 Prius. I have an 06 which works fine and has plenty of useful life left so I didn't upgrade.

Toyota has the philosophy of [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaizen]Kaizen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]. In the recent past, Consumer Reports has found that the 1st model year of a new vehicle or design generally has more problems than subsequent years (even Toyota) as bugs are worked out and improvements are made over time.

I've had my 2010 Prius for 2+ years, 21K+ miles. Very happy.

My 2010 Prius is from the very first month of production. After 24 months and 29k miles, its only problem is that it is one of the cold weather rattlers and squeakers.

2 years almost to the day and no real problems. The cable to open the hood has stretched a little. One bad flat tire from a road obstruction and another from a nail. And no rattles.

    22 months - 20,000 miles - zero problems

As you can see from other posts this is not at all uncommon.

The 2010 Prius may have had the most publicity about perceived problems. Real problems? Not so much. Certainly less than any other car I have ever had.

Mechanically a good reliable car. Drives and handles better than the Gen2, driving position is also a little better. I don't think the mileage is as good as the Gen2 but that may be my driving.

I didn't bother to have the brake recall done, I am used to them the way they are and I believe "if it ain't broke don't fix it". After 43K miles my car has never been back to the dealer for any problems.

Rattles, Yes I have them and quite a few at that. I have fixed some and some are still rattling. Most dealers are not very good at fixing rattles so I live with them. You may be lucky enough to get one that has no rattles; on the other hand you may end up with one like mine. It appears that some 2011 owners have the same rattle problems that 2010 owners do. Most of my rattles occur when the weather is cool, in the summer it's pretty quiet.

I like this car and I will keep it for another two or three years but I wouldn't buy another one because I really don't like rattles.

20k miles in 16 months; routine dealer service. Just back from 1200-mile round-trip to Oregon and back. The only thing that rattles is what I put in and don't secure.

60K+ miles and zero issues on my 2010.

Anyone can start a rumor. I heard the Chevy Volt has sub par tires. Wait for the 2013 model.

Bought ours July 2009 with 2 miles on the ODO, has 42k miles on it, never been back to the dealership except for scheduled maintenance.
