Ringo Starr turned 71 yesterday. When I told my 5 yr-old son that, he went directly to the DVD, put on "Hard Day's Night" and played along on his Beatles Rockband drum kit. It was so cute I couldn't resist. If only Ringo could see this! :)

I am guessing the Beatles are dying in order of post-Beatles talent, from most to least. Which means Ringo has another four or five years and Paul another 75 or so.

Don't kid yourself. Ringo played at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles last year, he and his fellow performers put on one helluva show at one of the BEST venues in the U.S. The only other place that comes close in my book is Red Rock in Denver!

I'm not saying Ringo is untalented. I'm just saying he's no Lennon or Harrison (but then, who is besides Lennon or Harrison?)

Ringo is my hero! He is the most underrated beatle, one of the more underrated in industry. Just put and listened to "Come together".. some of the songs he drummed just simply amazing!

And Pete Best is in the top five of history of "I wish I did that differently."

Real drummers and musicians all know how good Ringo actually is. He's not the most technical drummer. But his playing is very musical, subtle, and inventive.

I've always known he was good, but didn't realize HOW good until I started playing Beatles Rockband. Some of the things he did blew my mind. Simple songs like Boys or Octopus Garden actually are rated five stars on the Drum Difficulty scale. And deservedly so!

I could go off in about ten directions on this subject but I'll just say I disagree with the premise and the ranking.

i love georges music, but he was no lennon or mccartney. and i'd have to call them 50-50. depends on your taste. they were both better together.

Your kid must be Ringo's biggest fan. Or perhaps his smallest.

True, George wasn't nearly as great as Lennon or Beatles-era McCartney (as opposed to Ebony-and-Ivory-era McCartney, who in the talent department ranks somewhere between Barry Manilow and Vanilla Ice). But if he weren't overshadowed by two giants like that, he would be considered even greater than he is now. Probably.

As good as 'the parts' were, the whole was even greater. We'll never have another Beatles.

    Happy Birthday, Ringo. :)

agreed. and he didn't have the advantage of one of those two looking over his shoulder as far as i know. i think mccartney had as much talent as lennon but chose his post beatles music writing differently. for better or worse. he lost some of lennon's edge. but if you take all their post beatles songs, i like as many of his as lennon's.

Right on! Been a drummer for a long time. When I was a kid I thought Ringo sucked too, (mainly because I compared every drummer to Buddy Rich) till I tried replicating some of his whacky time signatures especially the unique hi hat splashes he does which really makes the song. You may not notice the crazy offset groove he's got going unless your a drummer and listen closely but its something special. And very hard to replicate perfectly.
    Genius.
I have the utmost respect for Ringo's talents.

    Long live Ringo & Paul!!!!!
