Prius Gen2 Traction Battery Experience

I have had my 05 at the dealer with HV battery problems. Voltage would drop and cycle abnormal. The dealer did the recall on the inverter pump and did a scan after a test drive. Said #13 cell was bad. Would cost new $3800 or $1800 used and no warranty. Brought it home and just did make it. It would accelerate without touching the pedal.. I found a used battery out of a 2007 wrecked in front with 42,000 miles for $550.00. I did the install and now the gas engine will not run. I did the disconnect, 12 volt disconnect. I have not reset the codes on OBDII. Is there a reboot procedure or could I have a bad power module (PCM). The replace battery has proper voltage to start and 12 volt battery is up. Any suggestion on the reason gas engine will not power up.

Congratulations Phil on your efforts! You are almost done. How many miles on your '05?

+1 on the orange plug. Improper re-installation is the most common error.

Removing 12V power for 5 minutes will clear all triangle codes except for ABS/VSC/TRAC.

So, how about this: disconnect your 12V battery negative. Pull the orange service plug out. Install the orange service as follows: as the plug goes in, the handle will rotate 90 degrees, from horizontal to vertical. After reaching vertical, push the handle downward as far as it will go. Reconnect the 12V battery, and see if the car will start.

Edit: the picture below shows how the service plug should look when properly installed. Just remember, having the service plug installed when a hybrid battery is out of the car is extremely dangerous!

My 05 has 106,000 but the Dealer would not give in on replacement under warranty, even though I bought two 05 Prius there. This will be the last one purchased from him in Charlottesville, Va. (Brown's Toyota) I have owned Toyota's since they were introduce in the US in 1969. Celicas, Corollas, Tercels, Pick ups. etc. I still have faith in Toyota and quality.

Wednesday, I will be off and will try again on the reset. One comment was to try to reset the sense line connector near the left side rear, lifting the metal flap cover. Could you explain this for me.
