Hi! Just thought I'd introduce myself. Picked up my new (to me) 2007 Prius Touring (package 6; black) today. LOVING IT :) ! Super low, low miles (41k). Purchased from a private seller/dealer (not a Toyota Dealership) so I'm trying to learn all the features - I actually knew a little more about this car than the dealer thanks to all the research I had done, so he wasn't able to tell me much more. Getting ALOT of tips from this site ... so, thank you!

Question: do you think if I took my car to a local Toyota Dealership where I had my pre-buyer's inspection done and where 'll be getting future oil changes and other service work, that they would be willing to explain to me all this car is capable of doing? Or do any of you know how I might be able to find an independent Prius specialist in the Tacoma/Seattle area?

    Thanks in advance!

    Congrats!

It depends how nice they are. You're asking them for their time to explain things to you that they don't have to. It also depends how detailed you want them to go. A tutorial on "all" the Prius features could take 5 minutes or 3 hours.

Do you have any specific questions right now we could probably answer?

Many of the capabilities are more of a matter of knowing what to look for. You'll notice efficiency benefits, like electric A/C... a feature some hybrids don't offer. Other capabilities come from wants, like wanting to transport kayaks on top. Others come from need, like finding out just how much you can actually fit inside with the back seats down.

In other words, you've still got a lot more to look forward to. Have fun!

Newbie here as well. Looking to trade my older car for a Prius..

Am looking to purchase a 2007 Prius(Package 5 or6) but have a budget of about $12K, have been looking at ebay, craigslist and word of mouth(avoiding dealers at all cost :D)

May I ask how much you paid for the car?

Paid $14k (rebuilt title) which included new tires/alignment, all recalls done, carfax, before/after pictures to prove it was a fender-bender, 5 year/100k powertrain warranty, and pre-buyers inspection by an independent Prius specialist (passed with flying colors). I would never have been able to afford a fully loaded, late-model with so few miles (39k miles). LOVING IT!!! So far I'm averaging 49 mpg (compared to our Ford Expedition SUV which got 11 mpg).

Good luck! Like another poster said - it is so worth the effort!

I don't believe an insurance company wouldn't repair a Prius if it only needed a hood & a fender. You can register the VIN at Toyota Owners - Official Toyota Owners Website to get the dealer service history.

John1701a wrote the book on the Prius.

Best wishes for many happy years with the car.
