The dealer where we bought our new Prius says it can't be disabled due to safety concerns. Anyone know of a Toyota dealer in the upstate of South Carolina that will disable the constant beeping?

I'd suggest speaking to the service manager, and referring to the customization chapter in the owners manual, which lists this as having a customized setting of beeps once.

Just got back from 5,000 mile first service at dealership and reverse beeps eliminated.

Tina, I had this problem with my dealer when the 2010 Prius was new. Also, I asked for this service to be changed when there was all of that Toyota junk and recalls going on. I also got denied, but tried again a couple of weeks ago. They changed it no problem. There is a section in your manual titled "Customizable Features" or something along those lines. Speak to the service manager and show them. They are not smart.

Ridiculous. This beep is one of the absolutely worst features of the car. I still have yet to get mine taken off after 25k, doh!!

"due to safety concerns" = "due to our service people being ignorant of how to do it"

Just got my prius couple weeks ago. Made the service people take it off. They kept telling me they couldn't and I kept telling them they had to. It is by far the most annoying sound I've ever heard.

Instead of asking to disable the beeping, specify you want the one beep.

One beep is the only other option available. You can't disable it completely. They're just playing stupid if they can't figure this out.

It takes about 5 minutes to connect the car to Techstream, drill through the menus, then set this option to "one beep." Another option to change is the seatbelt warning--to one beep also.

Service departments tend to be pretty busy, so your best bet is to ask for this if you have to take your car for service, rather than ask for complimentary customer service. The other alternative is to buy your own vehicle interface, Techstream software, and do it yourself. That's what I did, because I own two Toyotas, and now I can diagnose and monitor anything, including TPMS (but I can't change calibrations or set up keys).

The seat belt beep is very, very annoying, too

Could you PM or link me to the vehicle interface/software? I'm interested in this. Thanks!

Those w/ a ScanGauge II can do it themselves. Search the forums - it's been explained many times already.

Took my Prius in for the 5000 mile check up (and an oil change). I asked about changing the reverse beep to one beep and was told that there was a standard charge of $50 to do any customizing. (Let's see . . . if this does take 5 minutes than it comes to roughly a fee of $600 per hour for this service!) I passed for now. Has anyone else paid for this "service?" Is $50 a reasonable rate? Should I raise some hell with my dealer?

Not reasonable but not surprising. A stealership will also charge a flat rate of .5 or 1 hour to read a code, even though you can do it yourself for free at advance auto parts. Hence the name stealership.

I just had my 5000 mile service done.. They changed the revere beep to only 1 beep and removed the seatbelt warning for free. The service manager said she wasn't sure if it could be done. Told them to look at page 601 in the handbook. It clearly states is can be done.. lol.. what a joke.. Educate these service managers please!!
