Trying to Start, After Collision

You dragged it a mile at 50 miles per hour via a rope with a severely cambered wheel? lol, ooooooooook then... This is what a tow truck is for, seriously. I hope you now realize that was stupid, very very stupid.

Did the airbags go off? Probably not because of the location, but it changes things if ANY did go off.

Make sure the HV battery vent is not bent or broken or missing or blocked. Also make sure the HV connector is all in good shape. Other end of the car, but a jolt like that, who knows what you have now. Did you actually take it to a mechanic to make sure everything is on the straight and narrow?

 

connector?... isn't that on the other side? i would be worried about that vent and it's fan.. because the fan is mounted on the rear outside area of the wheel well.

... you should have pulled off the connectors to the 12v and jump the car with the other car off... prius will run without a 12v.. just not start. if you couldn't get it into ready, then it should have been towed with ONLY the back wheels on the ground.

did you get any odd resistance as you first started getting towed?... hear a loud clunk? if you did, that's your parking pin snapping off. if it's still there i'm happy for you and you're extremely lucky.

you may have caused some damage to a few parts... you may have potentially ripped the PSD apart... if not, you probably over revved the electric motors...

Yes the connector is on the other aide but it is rigid and it sounds like a bad wreck. Good point on overreving. At 50mph and your pawl disintegrated, MG will be seriously overstresswd without the edu to counter spin some.

 

IF you can get the DTC codes, we can be much more helpful.

 

Everything cobra said, is true and potentially very damaging to your Prius.

Since the airbags went off you need to do a replace and reset before the car will start.

 

+1 on codes. There's really nothing that can be done, other than checking fuses, relays, and the fusible link.

On the HV battery, the only thing on that side that can cause an immediate is the fan and its power connection. But if there is a problem there, it will set a DTC but the car will still run.

When you try to make the car Ready, do you hear the three relays in the back click?

On the rope tow... were the front wheels moving freely after the accident? If so, the only thing I can figure there is that wiping out the 12V did not allow the parking pawl to engage, or else it did engage while the car was still moving and subsequently broke. It is not clear what damage, if any, may have been done to the transaxle or inverter by being towed home 3 miles.

 

I understand the airbag deployment to disable the entire HV system. You are now beyond any quick fixes or resets described in the manual.

 

Check the fuse in the orange hv battery service plug. Be mindful of how it comes out, because people sometimes forget to push the handle all the way down during installation. I think the airbag computer is a red herring, as the salvage auctions advertise "run and drive" about half the time for a wrecked Prius with deployed air bags, but I can't find a definitive reference.
