I hope they will give you the codes without charging you a diagnostic fee.

I am at the dealership right now, and I am waiting aproximatly 3 hours for them to tell me what is wrong with my car. On my way to the dealership the car died or the engine and the battery only had one bar so basically I coasted into a driveway.......THey had to tow my car into the dealership.....I will let you know what they tell me.

ah and she says a diagnostic fee will cost me $92 if it's not related to the water pump recall.

That is normal. If the problem is related to an issue covered by warranty then the dealer should waive the $92 fee.

If the problem is not covered under warranty then the dealer needs to get payment for expending tech labor to obtain the DTC and provide a diagnosis. After all, you may decide to go somewhere else to have the car fixed, or may defer having it fixed.

She just informed me that there was way too much oil in the car, so hopefully that was not the issue. Which means #1 I call firestone and give them a bit*** of a lifetime for lying to me and to now only get my oil changed at the dealership!!!!!!! So I am being positive and optimistic this was the case that my car freaked out and why it went into safe mode which it normally does due to too much oil... thanks to this site being as informative as it is! I will update with the final diagnostic as soon as I know!

I hate to comment, only because I think they are independently owned franchises.

But I personally had a horrible experience with a company vehicle being serviced at a "Firestone".

Which I would chalk up to a random, possibly isolated event. BUT...yours included, I've also heard many other horror stories of Firestone screw ups.

Without dragging up a long story, my incident was something that simply should NOT of happened. Basically they took it upon themselves to do "extra" work I did not authorize.

So in short...I don't trust Firestone. I'd never take my vehicle to them for service.

SO here is the final diagnostic.... Firestone had put a quart over the required oil which caused the engine to go into safe mode. These are the diagnostic codes on the sheet given to me from the toyota dealsership: P0171-C2318-B1260-P0AOF and 7 other codes( but not given) I paid $92 for the diagnostic and $88 for the tow fee which was all reimbursed to me by Firestone along with the $23 spent on a crappy oil change which caused all of this mess in the first place. I've defiantly learned my lesson and will no longer get my oil changed anywhere else except for the dealership. THanks for all the feedback and help everyone! :)

Patrick I am not an expert ... and checked the dip stick it did not appear to me to be over, it was over the dimple but about an inch.... I didnt realize that meant too much oil. Anyways problem fixed and I am so thankful!

It does not take a genius to change the oil, and despite your, and other bad experiences in this department, others at PC have had many incidents with "stealerships" that one needs to check twice about using them unless there is no other option. The best thing you can do is whenever you get an oil change on any car, remind the technician how much oil the car needs (it is in the owners manual,) which is 3.9 quarts for the Gen II. Then check the oil is a little below the upper dot with the engine off before leaving. (It should be below because the engine would have just been running, and need a few minutes for most of the oil to drain back down.) Everyone the owns a car should now how to check the oil, it is part of normal maintenance, and should be check at regular intervals.
At least the Prius told you there was a problem. Years ago a young lady I new changed her own oil, or thought she did. She drained the transmission instead, and added fresh oil to the engine. She started the engine, and it self desctructed from having too much oil.

*Always* check the oil yourself before driving away from an oil change, no matter who does it (including yourself!). It's so simple. All of the woe recounted above would have been avoided.

The top dot means "FULL, DAMMIT". Why do Americans think that too much is better than enough?
