Honestly, did I stumble across a joke article? It seems like it must be, but I see similar info on other sites. "Toyota is planning to launch a Prius SUV and convertible" Other tidbits: Prius c to be more like Prius v, have all-wheel drive, nothing like concept, made to rival Nissan Juke?!? Toyota Prius C Begins to Take Shape - Motor Trend I want to see a car that can rival a first gen Insight in mileage, not this...
Juke or Joke? Something to rival The Nissan Juke...is not what I've seen so far in any of the spy photo's or video. Unless Toyota has really changed gears? A larger, AWD vehicle was not my understanding of what the Prius c was going to be all about. Guess we will see...but that does sound like it would be a significant back to the drawing board change to the entire idea, pretty late into the game. As far as a future SUV or convertible? I'd have no problem with that. A convertible Hybrid? I'd love that...
I think facts are getting mashed here. The Prius c will not have dimensions closer to the Prius v over the regular Prius. While I understand this guy or some guy has "sources", it really doesn't add up. IMO the Prius c will stay a small 2WD hatchback similar in size to a Yaris 4 door. Also THSII is not new or upcoming.
Lol at this articles terrible source. Making another "v like" Prius to compete with the Nissan juke makes absolutely no sense. MOTOR TREND IS A JOKE!
Here is a quote from the article: Here is what we know about the v: Wheelbase: 109.4" Overall Length: 181.7 I would hardly call them "similar." For goodness sakes, a regular Prius is: Wheelbase: 106.3" Overall Length: 175.6" so this doesn't even put it close to the regular Prius, much less the v.
right, so imagine what kind of idiot do you have to be in automotive world to think that 100" and 109" wheelbases are similar... difference in size is 3 classes
Yeah I do not know about that (The v is definitely not 156" long) but it also goes to show how easy it is to get confused when you're just sticking with letters. I don't know where that drawing came from but i like the look of it. It almost looks like a Fit-type vehicle or, something closer to the family, the Toyota Verso S.
The more pictures I see of the 2012 Yaris, the more I think the Prius C is based on it. For example, the position of the fuel filler door. Though I hope I'm wrong and it is just Toyotas looking like Toyotas.
The Prius c is Yaris based. Same chassis of the new 2012 Yaris HB. C starts production in January. Anyone who wishes to pre-order at a moderate discount just whistle. Pricing is undecided but fuel economy is going to be amazing.
Hey Dianne, I have a friend that may be interested. Do you deliver to texas? Can you give us a clue on fuel economy? Do you know if its 1.8L prius engine, or something smaller?
Better than the Prius, obviously. After all, it's smaller and the Prius' mileage is at least close to amazing. Other than that, he who pays the piper calls the amazing tune.
I'm not sure this is necessarily the case. This has been discussed in another thread. The aerodynamics of the C appear to be inferior to the regular Prius and may hurt MPG. It remains to be seen if the lighter weight of the C can offset that. Though I think there is a good chance it can.
Being thoroughly unimpressed with first Yaris, I would need to be convinced of both sufficient improvements in this platform, and that the pricing, once announced, makes sense. For something in this segment, the 33 MPG 2012 Hyundai Accent is looking very good. I'm certain the Prius C will get much better MPG, but it will also likely be priced thousands higher than the Accent. It becomes a question of pay now or pay later.
I would go with the Hyundai Accent. Much Bigger, awesome miles per gallon, awesome styling, less expensive. Excellent Quality What else can you ask for?
Just look at the Lexus CT 200h. It does weigh more than the Prius, but not enough to explain its 8 mpg drop completely. Being lighter will help the C, but if Toyota puts in an engine larger than what's in the iQ, I don't see it getting much better than the Prius. It needs to compete with the Insight1 in fuel economy, or be noticably cheaper than an Insight2 for me to look at it.
I don't think Toyota will let it be worse and will try to make it better. If they want to target a younger demographic, they might allow it to be a little worse on the highway as long as they can use reduced weight and downsized engine to make enough gains in the city. So, 57/45/51 or 59/45/52 would work. EDIT: Duh. It's harmonic.
