Hey Gasman, Shoot me a PM with your email and I will send you the PDF file for the factory add on EC homelink mirror installation. Part number PT374-47100. If yourmirror has a different part number, the install will be basically the same, since they will all use a simple three wire system. One constant power, one key power and one ground.

 

Gastiman:

Homelink needs constant 12V tap point.
Autodimming needs switched 12V tap point. (meaning, hot only when key at ACC position)
Both usually can be found inside the kick panel near your left ankle area of the driver.
Ground? Just tap to the body frame.
If you buy a kit specifically for Prius, it should come with clear instruction.
With side curtain airbag (if yours has it), you may find removing the A-pillar trim a bit tricky...

 

I'm also interested in upgrading the rear view mirror with auto dimming and homelink in my 2010 Prius III with nav. Does anyone know how the factory installed mirror is mounted - wedge or camlock? I need to know whether to order a camlock adapter for a DIY installation. Thanks.

 

If you have a NON ELECTRIC mirror (ie no wiring whatsoever to the factory inside mirror) then it is held in place with a simple spring clip type holder. You will still have the "tombstone" glued to the glass and the mirror base is clipped onto it. Grasp it firmly and gently twist slightly to one side while sliding upwards and out away from the windshield. The EC (electrochromatic or auto dimming) mirror will use a Torx head screw to secure the mirror base to the tombstone. Simply slide the mirror base over the tombstone and tighten the Torx screw so that the base is not loose.

Be very careful not to twist too hard when removing the factory mirror!! It will slide upwards (towards the roof line) with a moderate amount of force to overcome the spring clip!!!!

Breaking the tombstone loose from the windshield is a VERY BAD THING!!!!

 

Hi everyone, I'm also interested in doing this. I just bought a trim III 2010 Prius yesterday. I looked through the PT374-47100 installation doc today and it looks really complicated...

Has anyone done this yet?

 

I have a Prius III package with moon roof and was told by my dealer that a homelink mirror could not be installed because of the moon roof! Has anyone heard of that or do they just not know what they are talking about? I wasn't sure if that is just Toyota's way of saying "You should've paid more and bought a IV"

 

The instructions do look a little more confusing than what the install really is... It is only three wires. Two of them go to the overhead console just 8 inches from the mirror and the last goes to the remote mirror control switch just to the left of the steering wheel.

The only thing to watch for is that the wire going along the driver's "A" pillar (being routed to the mirror control switch) follows the factory harness until it is lower that the curtain airbag.

The instructions do show a compatibilty issue with the sunroof, and I have to confess, I have not been asked to install one in a car with a sunroof. Therefore, I cannot comment as to the reason for the compatibility. If I get the opportunity to pull one apart a little and find a reason, I will post it here. Until then, I would hae to bow to Toyota and say I don't recommend it.

Have you found out why Toyota says there is an incompatibility with the moonroof and a homelink mirror?

 

Nope.... We went ahead and gave it a try and it worked! So, as of this time, we have installed quite a few without issue.... Toyota may have been concerned with electrical interferance or tapping into the wrong wiring or drawing too much current, which may cause eratic operation of the moonroof... Just my Best Educted Guess......

 

I have a base II model and added the Homelink mirror without any issues. I just snaked the wires along the side pillar without removing the cover.

I can't remember how it went across the top but I didn't think it was a big deal. I think I just shoved it up, under the inside roof lining. (The car isn't here so I can't check.)

I think I tied the ground in at the overhead light and ran the remaining two wires down the drivers side, pushed them behind the pillar panel and tied them in at the fuse box.

The mirror was a simple swap out and I trimmed the wire track to go straight up to the inside roof liner. I pulled the light out and fished the wire up to there for the ground, I think. I may have ran all three wires to the fusebox and grounded there. But I did remove the light so I could pull the wire straight up. I remember that.

It just takes a little common sense and you can complete this in an hour.

 

I was able to find a hot source over my driver's visor (for the light). As for a switched source, I stole power from the overhead. When the lights are on, the LED shines down, I stole power from it's source.

 

Sorry to be dense, but when you said you have installed quite a few, does that mean with the moon roof? I figured it's fine to do it for Prius without a moon roof because the instructions say it's fine.

 

Did it on my 2011 Gen 2. Very Simple, in fact, all of these mods are simple:

Basically all plug and play.
