It the service light came on, other than the normal bulb check at start up, I would bring it to the dealer so they can see what code it logged when that occurred.

I had a check engine light appear in my 2008 Prius. Owners manual says it could be one of three problems. The three noted problems looked serious, so I decided to contact the dealer to have them look at the car. Funny, my car drove normal. No issues. I took my car to the dealer today and they hooked it up to a computer for diagnostics. The computer determined that the problem was a vaporization leak. Sounds serious and expensive, but the culprit was a gas cap that wasn't on perfectly and vapors were passing. Yes, I was charged. I apologized to the dealer and they assured me that this happens all of the time. People are always coming in for the same reason. So, if the check engine light comes on and the car drives fine,,,,, check the gas cap or Toyota will receive some easy money from you.
