I am new to this forum and I have a 2011 Black Prius II. I am going to purchase some new wheels and I am on the fence about transferring the sensors to the new wheels. I am purchasing the new wheels & wires online and they will mount and balance for free before shipping them out. So I just want to get a feel for how many of you with aftermarket wheels transferred the sensors over to then new wheels.

    Thanks!

Recently, I was on the fence about the same issue. I found some online. I called and was assured they were OEM parts. Not bad for $62 shipped for all 4! I couldn't pass it up.

also the fact im going to be switching from summer/winter rims and tires made me figure that switching TPMS was going to be a pain, so I got the extra sensors.

If you go this route don't you have to have the dealer re-initialize the computer to recognize the new sensors? And then again when you put the original ones back on? In other words, the computer will not automatically register new sensors, only the four it is programmed to recognize.

I don't plan on switching tires annually so I just had the existing sensors installed on my new wheels.

Yes, you will need to update the TPMS IDs in the ECU each time you swap wheels. You don't necessarily have to use the dealer for this, as there are tools you can buy that allow you to do it. Some larger tire chains may have the tools that are compatible with Toyota or they may not.

The other option is to buy a TechStream compatible cable (most get them from China) and to install/uninstall/install each time you wish to use it. Or you can purchase a 2 day subscription for $55 and program it yourself.

I did the ECU wire jumper mod. The light never comes on and I can switch between my winter and summer tires. With out wasting money on the sensors.

Can you link us to that jumper mod? Thanks for all the input. I decided to not install the sensors.

Has anyone tried the TPMS Tool from ATEQ called "TPM QuickSet" ? I have one at home that doesn't work on the RAV4 but maybe it does on the other sensors of the PRIUS. I have also ordered the OEM quality $69 TPM sensors and hope they work as advertised.

It works here in the US - I'd imagine it would work there too.

Within a week of purchase last fall I swapped out our OEM 17" alloy wheels (with Tire Pressure Monitors) for snow tires on 15" steel rims, without TPM's. The world continued turning. Basically one little light came up on the right extreme of the dash. Put the OEM's back on in spring: the light disappeared.

My personal preference, if one were to have 2 sets of wheels/tires and only 1 set of TPMS would be to put them on the snow tire set. That's mostly because in winter it's cold, possibly snowing, and I really don't want to fiddle to check the pressures if I don't have to. More likely to keep an eye on it during summer months.

Swapping the sensors between tires is asking for aa sensor failure.
Getting thee dealer to reprogram the TPMS twice a year is not cost effective.
... or one could avoid the costs and just live with the bloody TPMS warning light.

Just a side note from our europen cars with head-up display: The display shows several allerts and the TPMS is one of them. Instead of speed we are getting the warning triangle for the TPMS. do not know how long this stays but it will be annyoing for sure.

I bought my wireless tpms monitor on Amazon, made by Tyredog. Shows psi and temp, love it, easy to use with screw on cap which is easy to transfer.
