Rumor has circulating in Japan about minor changes for JDM Prius.
This is good or bad I am not sure until officially announce by Toyota.

Following is web site I found.
    ??? ???? ????????????????????????

    Good
    Material changes are interior panels
    JBL option
    Sunroof will be independent option
Design change for rear review mirror to reduce wind noise

    Bad
    No more active head rest
    No more HUD(head up display)
No more blue frame Toyota emblems (maybe)

    Other
    Tail light design may change
    More cost cut measure
    15" rim may design change
    Maybe power front seat

    Are you sure ?
I translated the site into German and there was no word about toyota taking away the HUD and it would especially be a bad signal if Toyota would go down on saftey by going without the active headrests in future, wich also wasn´t mentioned in the German translation !

Unless these are just Japan market changes? I doubt they'd get away with selling the Prius in Europe without the active headrests. Removing them would be a backward step and certainly affect crash test ratings.

The HUD is great and would be sadly missed.

    You have three modes .

    1. Only speed
    2. Speed combined with system hybrid indicator
    3. Navigation arrows and distance to next turn ( vehicle speed or hybrid system indicator combined with vehicle speed is also shown )

    Have a look here :

Pre much but maybe this is only for JDM Prius.
If rumor is true Toyota will increase cost cutting measure for JDM Prius.

So but will see about that.

I guess you are right .
We will just have to wait, but there are rumors in this Forum that smart key entry f.e will be standard on front door, paasenger door and hatch in 2012 Prius !
So cutting cost by missing out on active headrests but on the other hand enable us to have the full smart-key-entry as standard on every Prius dosn´t really make sense !

A HUD display is great - I had one in my C5 Corvette. However, I couldn't wear polarized sunglasses as it would block the HUD reflection off the windshield.

    Great eh?

Shame the video was out of focus - as I'm sure it was taped not far from where I'm at but I just couldn't see the names on the road signs.

Looking at google translate, it mentioned smaller size door mirrors, so the OP probably meant side view, not rear view.

Toyota shouldn´t mess around with the size of the rear view side mirrors because they are good as they are,but they should give us power folding mirrors just as they offer them in Japans Pris !

I browsed through the thread so quickly I didn't realize the OP was not from an English speaking country or I wouldn't have tried to be funny. Thanks for the correction. :)

Toyota would like to reduce wind noise therefore they would like to change the design.

    Beside part of cost cutting,
Japanese company still thinks power folding mirrors are not necessary for US markets.

Should have information circulating by next month and rumor is November.

Expect plastic used inside to change as toyota has been inundated with complaints. They may also have a different interior for the plug in when the national release comes in 2013.

i dont think they will take any of the features out, they usually improve the things in facelifts :).

Obviously they are also opportunity to improve the cost to build the car, at least under the skin.

I'm not so sure JDM models will see much/any decontenting but I think it'd be more likely that US bound models might due to the very strong yen and weak US dollar. It's right now ~77 yen == $1 USD which is insane. See 1 us dollar in yen from january 1, 2008 to today - Wolfram|Alpha for some recent history...

I have the HUD in my Prius and think it's a pointless gimmick, like Touch Tracer. The HUD speedo is projected only inches away from the in-dash display. Why bother? Even the nav display is useless, as it projects a very misleading generic image at roundabouts that will send you to the wrong exit more often than not. I have it switched off. American punters are missing nothing.
