I drove my parent's cars: A 1988 Chevy Caprice and once and a while my dads 1961 DeSoto (big white monster with fins) around from age 15.

Finally at age 19 I bought my first slightly used 1992 Saturn SL2.
Now that Saturn rests in my parents garage as their extra car (still runs after 300k).

My 1st car was a 1964 Dodge 440 bought in 1980. I was probably 21. She was a bitch to start in the cold winter mornings. The steering was sloppy. The gas gauge didn't work. The quarter panels were rusted out. Push button shift. My brother rebuilt the engine. I bought it from him.

This is what it would have looked like new. Definitely not my car.

    JimN,

Was that body style also the Plymouth Reliant?

Although I never owned/drove one --Reliant that is -- as a high school
freshman my neighbors had one. Compared to my family's 30 HP VW
Transporter van, I thought that it was quite the "machine."

The only Reliant I know is the K-car from the 1980's. The Savoy may have shared the same platform as my Dodge but I'm not sure.

23... graduated from college, living with the folks, knocking down a nice salary and having few expenses, i walked into a dealer a few months later and said, "I want to order one of these..."

then GM went on strike for nine months. My '69 427 (7.0 L) Corvette arrived in August of '69 and they asked me if i still wanted to buy it... [LOL...]

Sold it about 42k miles later...
    Corvette Searches !
The one at the top was mine and I still miss it!

At 15 I had a 1984 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 given to me with 234,000 miles on the clock, and then a year later the first car I actually bought was a 1985 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 WS6 for $1,000 that only had 34,000 miles but was not running at the time. I completely rebuilt that car, and put in a LT-1 V-8 only for it to be totalled by a tanker truck in December of 2002. Man I miss those cars. They were your best bang for the buck. No A/C, no power steering, no power brakes. Nothing but you and the car. Plus with the LT-1 V-8 the 85' Fiero was fuuuunnnnnnnnnn. Sometimes I look back and wonder why I am not dead, lol.

I was 18 and bought a 1972 Dodge Colt. Ran it like a scalded dog. Used to rev the engine up in neutral and then drop into drive. Results were a weak 'chirp' from the tires and an eventual blown out transmission. Oh, to be young and stupid again...

That was the main car I drove as a teen (my mom's car actually)--that 350 V6 could haul butt for that little car! I really don't know how I avoided going off the road in that baby many different times. I did end up wrecking her one day when I pulled out in front of some little old lady on her way to church when i was 16 years old--just never saw her.

My first car I bough was a 1979 Mazda GLC that I paid the princely sum of $250 for back in about 1990 at the age of 19. It had been rolled over at low speed and the rear part of the roof crushed in a bit. First thing to do was crawl in the back, lay on the seat and kick the roof back up as far as I could. Then I had custom made pieces of plexiglass cut to fit in the back windows where the old ones had been broken out! I ran the heck out of that little car for about 3 years--I honestly don't think I ever did an oil change, filter change, or anything to it and it ran great for that 3 years until eventually dying.

25 years old. A 17-year-old used 1956 CJ-5 Willys Jeep. It was the only 4-WD I could afford for the Minnesota winter. It was a piece of s**t!
