IPA is only available as part of the Adv. Tech package. They're dropping it in favor of HUD. This is for US-based Prius. European Prius may be different.

Can't say I'm surprised because it's probably the least useful feature of the ATP, although it gives the biggest wow factor when demoing to people. At least HUD will be more useful in everyday driving.

Yes. It's not so popular anyway. Given the turning circle and back-up camera make it an easy car to park (even I can parallel park this car) they need to come up with a better system. Maybe they'll restore it once they can come up with a Ford-beater.

    Maybe you´re right !
After all the production Plug-in is shown in Europe (Germany) first, and and if the Picture of the facelift ins´t a fake you can still see the sonar parking sensor on the front side of the vehicle .

I agree with HUD. I've had it in my 650i since 08 and I would never buy another car without it. I hope the nav is used with the HUD as it is in my bimmer.

Yes, the OP posted some video here. You have the option of navigation arrows and distance to next turn.

I'll take HUD over IPA any day. IPA seems like a very slow process and I'd think it'd irritate the hell out of people waiting for you to park so they can pass you. But, what do I know, I don't have IPA.

If the removal of IPA is related to Entune then has someone heard that Entune would be coming to Europe? Wasn't it supposed to be launched only to US market at first and no known timeline when it would come to Europe?

Maybe European models will continue to get the older system and also IPA. We have had possibility to get IPA, HUD, DRCC and even solar-panel roof at the same time so there has been quite much variation between markets and why would it stop now. Especially if they don't plan to bring Entune to Europe right away.

Earlier theory of Entune being the reason of missing IPA actually sounds very logical. Giving HUD in exchange is actually very good step and keeps technological level quite the same (one technological option exchanged to another).

(Planning to order Prius right away when it becomes clear when 2012 models would be available for order in Finland).

It'd be funny to take a driving test, and when the inspector asks you to parallel park the car, you fire up the IPA.

I'm glad they're getting rid of it.

It's a slow process unless you skip the pre-support system.

I seriously doubt that. It's just programming and it'd be on a separate interface within the rear view monitor. More likely they want to maintain the same price point for the AT package. Fewer complaints that way compared to getting rid of IPA.

The IPA or the APGS as it is later refered to as is not a bad system as far as parking the car goes. It will put the car right where you put the box for the car to go. The system is only as good as the person setting it up and the set up is a long tedious process, relying on the low resolution rearview camera. The only problem I have is the user interface when you are setting up the guidance. I really don't use it unless I want to show off. Most of the time I forget I have the APGS feature at all. I would rather have a HUD than a car that can park it self.

As much as I love gadgets (and the IPA/APGS is a gadget), a HUD would definitely be more useful (esp. those with navigation as the nav instructions are shown there). For those who must have all the information visible, you can have the HSI on the HUD and the Cons. Screen or Energy Monitor on the MID. If the Prius gets the same Premium HDD as the Camry Hybrid, then you can have that split screen capability and have the Energy Monitor displayed on the nav screen too.

I use APGS maybe once a month at the very least just for the heck of it (usually at work since my job starts earlier so there is nobody walking around in the parking lots so I can set it up and let it park itself as I prepare for disembarkment)

That sucks that Toyota is getting rid of IPA. Why can't we have it all; Entune, full Adv Tech Pak with IPA, HUD, solar roof, PLUS package and Plugin. While we're at it, throw in attention monitor.

But would it matter to you? You're too scared stiff to use it ;)

Well usefull or not,it made the Prius an even more special car in my opinion and by the way,the system seems to work quite well and fast in this video :

It is pretty fast when you just use press the button on your Nav. screen while parking. It gets to be a pain when you use the APGS Pre-Support function as demonstrated in the last couple scenes of video you referenced. You can't really use the Pre-Support in real life in a crowded parking lot or city street. It is just easier and faster to park the car yourself.

Yes, it's working fast (in the beginning of the video) because the pre-support mode is skipped, with the only limiting factor being the speed by which you pull into the spot. Gets easier with practice.

True, someone will just beat you to the spot while you're backing in :)

A HUD is pretty cool and this Entune system may cause me to rethink buying until the new models come out. I like the proposed features on the Prius 3 and I would get the optional solar roof.

I can attest that Toyota did indeed nix the IPA in 2012 Prius models. Picked up my 2012 w/ATP yesterday.. It has the HUD, but no IPA. There's a cap where the IPA button used to be.
