Hi folks - I have spent the last two weeks researching and have been working with a great salesman to get the car I want. Tomorrow I take possession of my new 2011 Prius IV! Its Sandy Beach with Bisque leather interior, heated seats, and the Solar/Nav package. I am so excited about this car - and I don't usually get excited about cars.

This is my first new car in 30+ years; we've always bought slightly used or program cars. I'm really looking forward to sitting down with the owner's manual and figuring it all out. :)

My son and his wife have a 2010 Prius III in Blizzard Pearl with Ash cloth seats, and I have loved that car ever since they got it. I just think its a fabulous example of technology. I almost got one the same color, but I really love the sand color and was thrilled that my salesman got one for me.

I am so looking forward to chatting with you all about the Prius way of life! :) Will post pics and details tomorrow!

Congratulations, from Wisconsin. And it sounds like you're getting a great vehicle....one question though if I may? Do you need heated seats in Texas? I could sure use them here if you don't.

WELL....yeah.... :) In the winter it does get cold, sometimes in the teens but mostly high 20s to low 40s during the day.

Funny story - last February I spent 2 weeks in Anchorage AK babysitting my kids' dogs while they vacationed. It was in the 30s the whole time I was there, and at home in Texas they had record cold for 8 days in a row, down to -8 degrees and highs in the single digits. It was WARMER in Alaska than in Texas! :)

Anyway, the heated seats are a luxury, but the nav and solar roof are essential! :)

Thanks for the climate information there in winter months, as I never realized that it cooled off that much in TX. In that case it is good to have them. Enjoy.

Bun warmers are welcome anywhere! Even TX gets cold in the winter!

Amarillo is in North Texas, exactly 4 hours west of Oklahoma City. Yes, it can get very cold there and here. We were well below zero many times last winter. it can also get real hot. We're currently bumping 60 days over 100° this summer. That's the hottest on record ever and the old record was 50 days in 1936.

Scoobagirl, welcome to the forum and great color choice! I like mine. If you see one with OK plates parked in front of Big Tex Steak house, it's probably us. [IMG]

Congratulations on your upcoming arrival. However, beware of the finance manager's office. After getting a good deal on a new car, that's where many people let their guard down and end up overspending on protection packages and warranties of dubious value.

When I walked in the finance manager's office on Wednesday, the nice man summarized the price on the car, my trade, and the interest rate. Then he presented a grid of about 8 payment options of 60 or 84 months (I requested 48 months) and each square had roughly the same payment +/- $50 and different combinations of paint protection, fabric protection, extended warranty, etc. I was asked to choose one of the squares and I declined. I politely stated that I understood that was his job, but I didn't want any of the additional services and I wanted the least loan term for our agreed-upon rate. I was then presented a form to initial that I, gasp, declined all their valuable added services. Only then did he send the final forms to the printer for my signature.

You state that you haven't bought a new car in 30+ years. I strongly recommend that you take someone along who understands how modern car sales work to advise you and hopefully prevent an expensive mistake in purchasing an otherwise outstanding automobile.

    Congratulations on your new car.
We drove with our metallic blue Prius four with navi last night.
So I completely understand how you're feeling right now. It's quite hard to contain the excitement.

My suggestion is to check some you tube videos on how to drive the car.
It's not your typical car and there are tricks like pulse, glide, coast etc that will help you maximize the fuel efficiency of Prius.

If you don't mind me asking. How much was your purchase price.
We paid sticker price of 31,008 here in south Cali. That's before taxes, license and fees

congratulations on the new Prius... Funny, my father in law bought a 2011 because of my 2010. He originally had a loaded model and "downgraded" to one like yours.

I've only had mine for 15 months and still look for excuses to "go out somewhere" just to drive.

Just saw your comment - thanks very much! We've bought lots of cars in the past 30+ years, but this is the first brand new one in that length of time....

The purchase experience was excellent - they did not hardball the extra warranties at all - just said "here's what we offer" and it wasn't a big deal. I had already negotiated my trade in, and had a letter of credit from my Credit Union so we were only in the Finance office long enough to fill out the tag & title info and register the XM radio and the emergency package to me (the Onstar equivalent).

I cannot recommend the staff at Street Toyota in Amarillo highly enough - they are awesome. I was so impressed with the way they do their business. My salesman had 2 cars being picked up on Saturday - mine and another - and he did not rush us or skim over anything - we spent over an hour going over the whole car and programming in my phone and other stuff. I would gladly buy another vehicle there tomorrow! :)

hey Mark, thanks again, I was thinking of you on Saturday. Did you know Big Texan has a brewpub now? We had a couple Raspberry Wheats to celebrate the new car. :) Though you've got Tapwerks in Bricktown.... :)

I honestly don't mind - I paid MSRP of $32,644, less $4k for my trade-in. My TTL is around $2300. This thing is loaded, and I'm really happy with it! :)

    Thanks for the response.
If you don't mind, I'm going to let my Boss ( wifey) read your post.
I told her that the excitement we get everyday driving the Prius, the savings that we're currently enjoying, the less visits to the gas pumps make everything worth while. :)

It's hard to really negotiate when the car you're buying is in demand,
Our dealer has a $7,000 off on a New Tundra or a Syquioa.:D

yeah, its pretty much a sticker-price world with the Prius, I've found. In a way, its ok, you know where you stand going into the deal; I found that to be so much less stress! It was a total pleasure buying this car.

I was driving a car that got 17 mpg and would have probably run for a long time to come, so I knew there was no reason to buy a brand new one with a slashed price that got the same mileage... that was a no-brainer for me. I wanted a new car AND better gas mileage! :)

    Spread the Prius love! :)
