Seems all of that can be done by any half-decent mechanic? If so, then I`ll just take the car to our regular mechanic.

If not, I suppose the only place to go in Perth is a Toyota dealership? Gosnells is the closest one to me.

If you take it to a regular mechanic just make sure they actually power down the car correctly before they do any work on it!!!

Many sad stories of Prii being driven onto ramps, not switched off (mechanic assumes it's off as the engine isn't running), oil is emptied, car detects drop in engine temperature and thus switches it on to warm itself up - bang, clatter, bang.

Cue swear words from mechanic and one damaged engine!

That 80K service is a killer. Nearly there. They must have been smoking something to come up with that figure for what gets done.

That's what I thought.... $810! What the hell!???

Anyone have any sane reason why that price is there? Actually, I`ll reply to the Toyota guy tomorrow and ask him.

The obvious question (apart from why are your Toyota services cheaper), is.... what is an in-tank filter? I'm assuming it's a petrol filter. And can any other mechanic source the part and replace it as needed?

$800! wow! i'm not looking forward to that! My car is on about 49,500km, from memory my 40,000km service was only about $120 or something :s

Hi Stormz. Yeah My dealers are good guys (small country dealership) and always seek ways to make it a little cheaper. They sold me extended warranty for $1179.

It is a fuel filter. I presume other mechanics can do the job but I don't know Perth at all.

By the way I just realised yours is a Gen II and that may account for the price difference, though I don't see why.

Bit slow here in the country

Good news then. I'll get in touch with our regular mechanic (a rarity... a trustworthy one) and ask if he's happy to do a Prius.

btw, I also agree totally with you... it's not Soccer, it's FOOTBALL.... ie with a round ball, played with the foot (not the hands like Aussie Rules Football and American Football). I`m a Southampton (Saints) supporter. I download lots of football from UK tv via uknova.com .

Was talking to a chap who has just had his 80k service done on his Nissan ??? - and he was complaining about a bill of $840 for that. It seems that Toyota is not the only one hitting big time for the 80k service.
