My backup camera is only working about 20% of the time with no pattern to it. When I shift into reverse I get a bright white screen with colorful vertical lines in it. Everything else about my display works fine. Is there a way to reset something on this? Every now and then it works but most of the time I get the white screen with vertical colored lines. Any ideas are appreciated. I may pop into the dealer next week. It's a 2006 package #8 with 63k.

I guess it's a bad connection, but doesn't hurt to clean the actual camera near the license plate (soap and water? camera lens cleaner?)

It's not dirty , this a software issue or a connection problem. I don't know where the connections are for the camera. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't.

My wifes 2009 Prius backup camera gets a black screen with what looks like the horizontal control out of whack ! The screen seems to have windshild wiper moving from right to left.

Change from reverse to drive... camera off. Switch to 'Reverse' again.. and backup camera is normal viewing mode.

Guess I will take a picture of the screen next time it happens to show the folks at the Toyota shop that the error while intermitant.. actually is there.

An excellent idea to provide a picture, your car probably needs a new camera assembly. It sounds like the video signal is screwed up in your case as well as the OP's.

Just a little bit of soap and water is all it takes to clean the lens off.

@pizza, that sucks. Is that at a stealership? Maybe a body shop in town can replace it with a working used camera from a totaled Prius for cheaper.

I went to two different dealers and they both said the same thing. I did not have them diagnose it yet though. that's $100.00 so it could be something simple. I wanted to remove the plastic inside the hatch to get at the camera from the back side but I wasn't comfortable doing that. Are those interior panels easy to remove? Any ideas? Help!

    Thanks, Sliceopizza

Does anyone have a fix/workaround for this issue aside from the 1k camera replacement?

There's around a hundred of them on eBay right now all around $175.
    Very easy to replace.

I have 2006 Toyota Prius, I have the same colour line problem when I put the car in reverse. It is easy to remove the plastic cover. Get hold of the corner and pull it hard. It will come out. You will see the connector and two nuts, use (#10) ratchet and remove.

I tried the "easy" fixes, and nothing worked. I am not wanting to replace the camera, so I tried an old mechanic's trick and gave it a small <smack> just between the camera and the license plate. Problem solved...backup camera is working again!!!
