Hello from a Newby.. but proud owner of a 2002 NHW11 Prius. We use metric measures here .. (as in Canada) ..and I have fitted a x USA screen & radio -replacing the original Japanese one.. BUT I wish to change the settings on the efficiency display to show metric Km/ltr usage. Can anyone please help with instructions on how to change these readings.. I have managed to change the Temperature display to Celcius OK..
All suggestions greatly apprecaited by a few of us in New Zealand.. Thanks.

I don't believe it can be changed. It's been discussed on this board before.

-IF- you could change the destination country to Japan, then it would change. Many have tried to change the destination country (to whatever one they want) but none have succeeded. You can get into the menu to change it but when you select another country nothing happens, including if the dealer uses the THHT (Toyota Hand Held Tool).

Thanks very much..for your prompt inputs..:( David Beale - I am very pleased to read your comments .. and would value your further advice as to whether any Prius's sold in Canada are supplied reading which MPG's or K/Ltr .. ?? as I believe you mostly use metric measures.
BTW..my vehicle is a direct import from Japan which arrived with their all Japanese characters on the screen but showing K/ltr OK ..but otherwise unintelligable to me.. Hence my efforts to change .. which I have also done for my son .. who has two as well..

In Canada we read l/100 km for mileage just like Europe. Speed is km/hr or MPH (dash switch). If we could switch to gallons it would be imperial (but we can't of course).

If you search on this site you can find the instructions for getting into the hidden menus, where you can see the different country entries. Maybe you're smarter than those who have tried, and can find a way to make it take the change. Be aware, it may not be possible as there are also physical differences between cars from each country. For example, in Canada we have DRLs (daytime running lights), while in the US they do not. Some of these differences can affect whether the programming will be happy.

The benefit of l/100 km is that you get little tiny bars when you are being really efficient. I think when gas consumption is being displayed, that's the way to go. It makes you feel good looking at the display. Photos of the US bars that i've seen just show a maxxed-out 99.9 MPG bar. US drivers don't seem to get any more visual information than that beyond the graph limit. I sometimes see 1.5 or 2.0 l/100km for five minute intervals (157 mpg or 117 mpg). I realize it's only for five minutes, but it makes me feel better than seeing 99.9 mpg.

Well, as this thread is old, an update is warranted. I'm told that at least -some- have been successful in changing the country setting. This was posted by a Spanish member of the forum. The gist was if you hold the button for a long time the change will go through. Sorry, I don't know exactly -where- in the forum the posts are, you'll have to use the search function.
So the successful technique is to get into the service menu, the country section, and select the country "settings" you want, then hold the button for 10 sec or more to get it to take.
I don't know if it really works, but I suppose it's worth a try. If it doesn't work you'll still have -your- country settings.
