Well, what's dumb is that they do that anyway as part of the service. On my invoice it lists BG PF5 Fuel System Cleaner for $6.05. So, they did that and then they also wanted me to get their "fuel system service" for $159.99.

I had some dealer service records disappearing from the Toyota owner web site some time ago. I called Toyota and the person on the phone said something like "we only keep records of services that the customer or Toyota paid for, but not if the dealer paid internally." I let it go at that point. Some months later when I visited the web site the missing records all appeared again. Go figure. Now I take a screen shot of the records while they are still there.

Sad to say but I do not know many dealerships (or independent shops) that do not try to push these system "flush" services. This is a very profitable business for them. I am convinced that the Service Advisors must get a commission for selling these services.

What bothers me is that the people that are not mechanically inclined, and depend on their trusted service mechanic to advise them properly on what they need and do not need, are sold these high price services that most of the time they do not need.

There is a real good post on PC that lists the maintenance services that a Prius needs. I have a copy at the house but not here at work. If I find it I will post later.

At the ONLY other two Toyota dealerships I have ever had service at, I was NEVER asked to buy such "services".

As you can see, some dealerships are much better than others ! Hopefully after your email you will not have these offered again at Stevenson Toyota.

I found the services you need file that I mentioned earlier. Hope this helps.

Did you get your missing service history records restored?

At my dealer they have it on a big whiteboard on an easel so the second you sit down at the service desk its right there so you
know the spiel is coming. Get yourself ready to say no:

    Engine flush: No
    Injector flush: No
    Brake flush: No
    Wallet flush: No

They even have a good-better-best deal with 3 different prices. I just start laughing and say...man you guys kill me. Now fix my damn car.
