2005 prius, just finishing the body repair from impact to right rear door /quarter panel. Immediately after the collision the car showed the Red Triangle, would power up but only go into Neutral or Park, no drive or reverse. Optima battery was cracked from collision. Finished the body work, installed a new 12V battery, still have no start and red triangle after the repair.

Had a friend use a non-toyota scanner and came up with code C2318 (low voltage error?). What steps can I take before trailering it to the dealer? Thanks.

Since the 12V battery was damaged in the collision and you now have a low voltage error DTC, it would make sense for you to ensure that the wiring harness and fuse block that attaches to the positive terminal of the 12V battery is sound. If any doubts, replace the fuse block. Also ensure that the negative terminal cable is securely attached to the body.

Check the HEV fuse and the IGCT relay, both in the main engine compartment fuse box.

A point of concern: This vehicle was pulled by tow strap a few miles after the accident, in Neutral yes, but, it seems an odd coincidence that it is coding for a transmission control problem.

EDIT: The most important thing is to reset the code and see if it comes back. This type of code WILL NOT clear with a 12V battery disconnect. See

Check that all rear lights are working. A blown brake light fuse (labelled STOP under dash) will prevent car from going into ready mode. Main fusible link under the hood could also be blown.

Tranny problem is a considerable possibility. If I knew for sure that one of the electric motors was over-spun and damaged during tow, I'd put in a local used tranny next, but for now I'll hang onto hope for the tranny.

Something caused a no-start and red triangle right after impact which shouldn't have involved the tranny (only known system damage was a broken battery). Wish I knew what code(s) it had right then.

I'll carefully check each of the points listed and do the code reset. Thanks.

Found a main part of the problem which was a rookie mistake. I suspect that the HV battery safety connector was barely engaged but not secured previous to the accident. The impact knocked it loose. Finally learned exactly how to install it.

By the way, the short 50mph tow did not appear to hurt anything as I've driven it around and all acts normal. May have dodged a bullet there.

I've got the replacement airbag computer and curtain airbag to install next. Then the brake and abs warning lights to work on. Slow going on the car repair since we're trying to finish a big yard project before the weather turns.

Curtain airbag, airbag computer (used from autobeyours) are installed. The airbag warning light is off now. The red triangle also stopped appearing after a few drives so things are looking up.

Still have three warning lights: ABS, Brake and (!), possibly from disconnecting rear hubs and brake lines during the axle change. I think there's an ABS light reset procedure on here. Maybe the dealer for the other two?

Re: After Collision and Body Repair, No Start & Code C2318

Thanks for the suggestion. I currently have the following warning lights and codes:
Red lettered “BRAKE†light is on all the time, no code. Brake fluid level is good. Any ideas?
ABS light is on, code 42, could not get it to clear using the method found on the forum.
(!) light is on (tire pressure?), code 66. If it is tire pressure, can it just be turned off somehow? At least one, maybe all of my wheels do not have sensors. I don't mind manually tracking my tire pressures.
Airbag light is off, but code 56 comes up.

ABS 42 is a problem with the IG1/IG2 relay circuits. Check the fuses and relays, make sure that the 12V battery is fully charged and will hold a charge.

The ((!)) 66 code is for the linear solenoid zero point being undone. That unfortunately is a scantool-required fix.

Airbag 56 is a short in the passenger side curtain airbag squib circuit.
