    I've talked with 3 different dealers in VA, the closest launch state to GA, and none have any clue about the order process for pre-registered folks, and I have been the first person to inquire about the process.

    I may work a few more states up the east coast, but I just checked Delta,and a one-way ticket to LAX in March is going for $199; I might just be up for a cross country drive and some tunes.

    Dianne,

    I probably need to call you in the next few days to try to work out some of my unique issues. You have some good ideas on me getting there, that would have been an issue. I was thinking of making a Disneyland weekend out of the drive up there. I was stationed at Miramar 1995-1998 and I am about 25 miles southwest, right behind the Toyota of Chula Vista, I could almost hit them with a golf ball from my house. I will call you soon.:blah:

    Finally found someone at Koons Toyota in VA who was knowledgeable about the order process for the Plug-in Prius.

    He was very helpful, and said they could pick me up at Dulles if I flew in.

    He said that they would have a maximum allocation of pre-order vehicles they could get and that some dealerships would not be getting any.

    They did say they wanted a $2000 deposit up front.

    Part of me says that might be a little much, and a larger part says go ahead and go for it.

    I think that the dealer is taking advantage of you. The details of the ordering process call for a $500 deposit when you place your order with the dealer - and not before. And I don't think the dealer is going to be able to play games with the car as you have a confirmed agreement between you and Toyota. I beleive that Toyota will also be providing updates on the build/shipping status of your car. I would think that it would be very problematic for the dealer if your car "disappeared" to another customer. Glad we have Dianne....don't even have to worry about these things.

    According to Toyota's own Ordering Process FAQ the deposit is only $500:
    Place a deposit - Provide your dealer with the $500 deposit.

    A dealership asking for more than Toyota states in the FAQ would probably make me think twice about ordering from them.

    [edit: I swear SimiPrius' post wasn't there when I started on my reply!]

    Something interesting for the group;

    Enter the phrase "prius plug in priority order window" into Google and see how many dealers across the US have info on the priority order window.

    Some operations are more on the ball than others it seems.

    I forwarded a few links to a dealer in a location i'd like to use closest to GA, and am waiting to see any response.

    Dianne,

    Did you ever mention how much discount you are giving on the 2012 Plug In? I remember a $100 gas card.

    The folks who have me set as their dealer know. I'm not posting it publicly. :)

    I'm sure it's a lot better than one would expect and I don't require a group buy to do it ... One at a time is ok!!!

    It would be nice to know a ballpark amount though, to know if it is worth it for me to travel down there from Oregon, or at least as a starting point for negotiations with our own dealers. Is it in the hundreds? Over 1k? ????

    If you are in Oregon, where there is no sales tax to register a car, it would be wiser to ship the car. But, the shipping charges to send a car 1000 miles north or more would probably cancel out anything I can save you. You'd have to have lost the pre-order ability ie. not get the car confirmed in time and then have to stand in line for what comes next... that's where my volume will work out for you.

    How about a dealer that is willing to sell to customers in non-launch states with discounts and same order priority?

    If you mean someone other than me, as I am already doing that... yes, it would be nice. Especially for folks in the middle of the country. But the problem there is the middle of the country's volume is not what CA's will be. It may end up the ol' double edged sword.

    I sure wish Toyota would share their volume amounts as to how many are going to be available to pre-order in each region or state. Damn, that would be helpful! :cool:

    Certified Dealer program

    :: sigh ::

    PHEV dealer pricing revealed today.

    I think I looked like this first: :eek:

    and then this: :( ...and then :mad: and then :cool:

    and then after a while ... I realize it's such a short blip of vehicles in timeline and annual reality, I'm here: :rolleyes: chiding myself for the internal drama!!

    PS: profit margin isn't pretty at all, but I didn't think it would be either.

    What does that mean?
    I have been offline for a few days. My guess is the pricing is not "attractive".
