    Hi!

Finally - it is possible to order the 2006 model here in Norway.

I am interested in the "self parking"/parking assist system - now available in Europe.

However, it s NOT possible to order the JBL System at the same time (NAV is ok though). Seems to be canceling each other out... This bothers me - as I would like to have both....

So, is it possible to somehow upgrade the std. stereo system (CD changer, larger amp., better/more speakers) ??

Is it possible to mount a rear camera aftermarket?

And for some reason we can't get the new blue color here (8M6) - it's still the blue we all know from before. The new red however, is available (R3R (Barcelona Red)).

So folks - what should I choose? JBL or Self Park?

    Henrik

Seems like it would be easier to install an after-market stereo upgrade than a self-park system.

I am about to order mine here in Switzerland and I was told that IPA (Intelligent Park Assist) and JBL CAN be had together. I told the dealer that I had heard otherwise from Germany and other countries, but he showed me a memo from Toyota stating it was possible to get IPA with any system.

Since there is conflicting information I have my doubts, but I hope he is right.

Can anybody confirm compatiblity/incompatibility between IPA and JBL?

    Thanks,
    Alex

    Interesting Alex!

Could you get hold of that memo and send it to me please,- would be nice to show it to Toyota over here.

Also, is the leather option available in Switzerland? Toyota Norway claims it will not be imported to Europe...

In any case I guess the best people to answer the Parking Assist question are the Japanese - who has had the parking assist for a loooong time already!

Any Japanese Prius drivers that can help, please?

    Thanks,
    Henrik

    Henrik,

it is actually in French, but tomorrow I'll see if I can get a copy.

In the meantime a rough translation of the memo (based on my notes):

Changes for the 2006 Model Year in Switzerland:
    -Slightly re-designed head and tail-lights
    -Front grill with chrome elements
-New colors: Ultra Silver, Dark Grey, Bright Red, Light Green
    -Better readability of the MFD
-Leather Steering Wheel on all models
-New Dashboard and Door Panel materials
-Seat color slightly darker (non leather)
-Sound system with AUX input. No more Cassette Player
    -Ashtray only as an option

    Options:
    -Premium 1:
    Foglights, SKS, JBL-Audio

    -Premium 2:
Like Premium 1 & Navigation System and Bluetooth

In addition to the Premium packages the following factory installed options ae available separately or in combination:
    -Leather (no seat heating)
-IPA (Intelligent Park Assist): Will assist parking the car. All the driver has to do is operate the brake.

Prices will be set in the next few days and are expected to be about 0.5% higher than 2005.

I don't have a Prius, but I have heard many accounts of the JBL sound system not being very good. Even if you could have both it and self-park, you'd get better results from an aftermarket stereo system.

Yes, so I've heard - you are probably right.

I would like a "conceiled" upgrade though - not to spoil the dashboard with "alien" elements.

Since I am in the process of buying one, my dealer let me drive a Prius for a day.
While I agree that the JBL system could be much much better it is so well integrated into the car and the MFD that I am willing to compromise. I'd rather change the speakers and add a sub as this will improve sound quality, without compromising integration with the car's electronics and a bluetooth phone.

    Just my thoughts,
    Alex

I live in Holland and asked the dealer about this last week.. He told me that it wasnt possible. Now I read your information and wonder if anyone has some more info about it. I really like the combination.

My Dealer still says it's possible. I have some doubts in the meantime (hearing differing reports) and told him I would refuse the car if it wasn't like stated in the memo (I obviously won't ;-), but needed to make some pressure). Unfortunately Toyota's information policy is really bad. There is still no official 2006 price list in Switzerland. Only the aforementioned memo to the dealers. Will know for sure when my car gets here.

Hi chaps! Just want to add the following first hand information provided by a dealer in The Netherlands when I went to order my Prius: the Toyota Prius 2006 is offered in three versions, i.e. standard, Tech and Business Edition, the Tech being the ONLY provided with Intelligent Park Assist (IPA)... however, Tech doesn't come with 9 JBL speakers but 6... and it doesn't have Bluetooth neither Traffic Message Channel (TMC) equipped navigation system.

It's a pity we can't be offered all together. Nevertheless, my conclusion was: do I really need IPA? I personally prefer a good stereo equipment, Bluetooth and a nav system capable of providing traffic incidents, congestion and bad weather, plus the possibility of growing services... Note: TMC is operational in Europe free! :D

I get the feeling it's not a technical, but a marketing issue.
The packages being offered here in Switzerland are only two and IPA is optional to either one. Go figure...

The dealer would not hand it to me (being an internal memo), but he let me transcribe it on paper. So the info I posted is an exact transcription (I double checked since my first post). Sorry.

Apparently I should get it before the end of February (I'll believe it when I see it ;-)

Although I saw it on paper I started to have some doubts.
    Thanks for the info.

The importer of Toyota in your country only get a certain amount of cars. For Holland it is 12000 a year and for 2006 5000 are allready sold/ordered. So Toyota makes a choice depending on the country what to distibute.

So it is pure marketing and has nothing to do with incompatible technologies, what one dealer told me..

So just nag at your dealer.. He can order it!

    Well, confusion rules!!!

I was explained by the Toyota Importer in Norway that it is IMPOSSIBLE to have IPA and JBL at the same time for space limitation reasons (inside the dash) in LEFT HAND DRIVE vehicles - in the RIGHT HAND DRIVE configuration it's fine though.

I am affraid this is possibly correct....
