Following up on an earlier post, I tried today to get to & inspect the 12 volt battery of our 2006 Prius & had the luggage/tool storeage container out & the compartment was there on the right but I was unable to get that final cover off to have a look see at the battery. The owners manual shows that this cover lifts up & that is what I tried with no luck. I am from the old school where you only try so hard to get something off & if it will not come off - ask for HELP.
    HELP........
    Thanks !!

If you mean the carpeted little cover over the top of the battery just give it a tug and it comes right out. BTW, what are you looking for?

Its in the right rear corner under the rear floor. Look real close as the battery is in a hole and is covered by air vent pipe and other stuff. Do a search and you should find a step by step procedure. Hal

Pictures? Did someone ask for pictures?

#1. Push down gently on plate A to disengage tabs behind it; lift up at point B
#2. Circled tab on left of cover goes into circled slot
#3. Underside of cover. Tabs are circled and arrows point to slots they go into; bottom side of plate is circled where it connects to cover.

I had read on this site that possibly adding distilled water, if needed, to the battery would extend it's life.
And, I just wanted to have a look see to see if the terminals were corroded & needed to be cleaned.

This would be true if your 12V battery is of traditional design.

However, after you open up the battery, if you see fuzzy white mats separating the lead plates, then your battery is AGM and flooding it with water will not be helpful. In that case if your battery is weak it might benefit from only one or two ounces of distilled water in each cell.

Absorbed Glass Mat. In AGM batteries the electrolyte is absorbed into a mat of fiberglass. It is similar to gel cell technology, where the electrolyte is gelled, but it takes it to the next level. Think of a battery where the plates are separated by baby diapers: no liquid sloshing around.

I wonder if any replying here has just a few more pictures. My prius was disassembled for repair before I owned it and now I seem to be missing come components to secure 12 vlt battery and other parts in that area. Runs fine, I just want to get it back together. thanks
