So it's smaller than the Prius yet has lower FE?

And what's up with the conventional shifter?

Did it say mpg would be less than the regular prius? I did not see that nor do I think it will be, that would be counter productive to the type of vehicle they are aiming at producing.

As for the shifter, probably involves cost reduction. I thought some article or report in the past said toyota may want to aim pricing below 20k...

    EVO 4G ?.

YAYYY. Thank you! I know a lot of people on here will be disappointed in those fuel mpg numbers, but remember these aren't official. Plus, from what little I know about aerodynamics, I wouldn't expect it to get quite as good FE because it's shape isn't as conducive to that (a Kammback shape) as a Prius (Insight, etc.). However! I think it's sexy yet cute at the same time. I think its lines are sleek and well styled and I'm a huge fan that the dashboard will move more driver-centric.

That's what the article says, but we all know it will have better MPG and Toyota has already said this--even on their website now for future models it says this.

    But what is this:
Wasn't this car supposed to use the same powertrain as the regular Prius? This is much less and will probably be slower; 100 vs 138 HP and it's not going to be THAT much lighter. I guess I can see where they are trimming the cost on this, though. You can even get one without steering wheel controls, yikes!

Still, thanks OP for pics. I am looking forward to final MPG numbers on this.

Yes. regular Prius is rated 38 on 10.15 cycle, so Prius C at 40 is up 5%.

Wonder how it will effect EPA numbers.. I'd bet it will be lower or equal highway and higher in city by 5-8%.

Baby Prius looks really nice IMO. I guess the base model will have wheel covers while an SE or upgrade model will have wheels and lower body ground effects, really sweet!

    ah... two threads :).

    Few interesting things:
    - LED fogs
    - Customizable interior
    - Prius steering wheel and a lot of equipment (touch tracer)
    - Base 14" wheels, 15" standard on most models (important for economy).
    - Battery output 26hp (for electric power).
    - 40% better mpg under new JP08 cycle than Fit Hybrid or Mazda2 SkyActive (!).
    - 18% better mpg than base Prius S in Japan (JP08).
    - 305l trunk (7% more than in new Yaris)
    - 1050kg-1080kg weight (80 kg lighter than Fit mild-hybrid!, 40kg more than much smaller Mazda2 SkyA, 300 KG lighter than Prius?! - 25%)

Hmm those dash accent colors hint that this car might get some non-boring colorful paint ala Fiesta/Hyundai/etc sub compacts.

Both "yellow" and "red" are definitively not your classic colors, both had a bit of yellow/red in them and go towards orange... I like that yellow a lot.

    ^^^^ +1 on yellow

Kinda wonder how C stacks up against SkyActiv Demio Size/Price/MPG/Performance-wise

You know it is only the question of time before it comes here.

    Yellow is nice.

1.4 is kinda scary but maybe motor torque will make it less doggy. Our 1.6l 120hp Fiesta has to rev pretty high to get it moving and it isn't saddled with batteries and motors. If it keeps Prius performance I will be perfectly happy but I think a hotrod, high MPG 1.8l is the smarter (and cheaper) way to go.

SkyActiv Demio is 1.3L rated @83 vs Prius C 100. Since Prius C is nextgen Yaris (will be sold as Yaris in some markets), the Mazda2 vs Yaris go head to head in space/features. Demio is cheaper, but has worse city MPG, and rated 32km in Japanese cycle.

Will it be cheaper in US? what HP ratings both get for US? will Demio have better highway MPG? Will the SkyActiv torque and less car weight put it on par with more powerful Prius C?

I think CarScoop was looking at the wrong column (Fit hybrid) in the brochure.

Here are the specs. Prius C is the first 3 columns, followed by Fit(Jazz) hybrid. The second page also has the regular Prius (middle column).

    Under JC08 cycle, Prius is rated 30.4 km/L. Prius C is rated 35.4 km/L. 16% higher.
