It would be nice if they kept the rear sunshade option on the XLE! I miss that feature from our 2002 Camry.

It is hard. I've been looking at the Prius PHV vs. Camry Hybrid as a possible replacement for our 2005 Prius.

    1. Display Audio 4 (nav/entune/jbl) uss FM traffic so there's no subscription. The Premium HDD uses XM NavTraffic so there's a subscription fee after the trial period. However, Toyota has extended the trial period from 90 days to 3 years.

    2. It would be updated through USB I believe. I think it's flash-based.

I do not understand the PHV. It seems like it's an 8-10k premium (I know more standard stuff, but was one going to get that extra stuff?) over a regular prius. I think there's $3000 tax credit. Fueleconomy.org says a regular prius is about $1000/yr in gas. Best case, a PHV owner never uses gas and electricity is free, that's almost 5-7years payback. But no doubt, some gas will be needed and electricity isn't free, so guesstimate 8+ years for payback? I've read where Toyota had said the phv was only going to be a 3-5k premium, but I just don't see how. If you want nice seats, the phv is 40k

My dilemma with the Camry Hybrid is, why not then a Prius V wagon? Basically the same mileage.

Maybe it's time for a Camry Hybrid vs Prius V thread?

They expect most buyers to spring for the base $32k Prius PHV model which has some niceties like dual-stage heated seats (standard Prius are single stage).

Yeah I just posted that in one of the other threads. 1mpg separate the combined mileage between the two. One has amazing cargo space, the other has quite a bit of power. Both have plenty of legroom (though I think the new Camry wins) and the Camry wins in width. The Prius v wins with the panoramic roof but the Camry has the slick ultrasuede seats.

Sounds fair, and that's probably what will happen, but 32k for a base phv with cloth seats AND navigation? Has any company ever flipped on those two options before?

Since we have a 3row SUV, and the camry has sufficient space, and the camry still has at least a moonroof option, I'm leaning towards a camry. Supposedly they're not showing up till late Nov, Dec. And still no word on a 12' prius.

BTW, given the price of a Prius v FIVE, it seems like a regular '12 Prius FIVE should be cheaper than what an '11 Prius FIVE was?

What do you mean by flipped? I know the Corolla and Matrix had optional navigation systems (lite versions) and the 4Runner had an optional Eclipse/TomTom headunit, all had cloth seats.

I believe the '12 Prius will arrive in Dec, after the TCH.

Depends. The HDD-nav isn't cheap. It's more expensive than the DVD-based version in the 2011. (In Japan, the HDD option is nearly $3k compared to $2k for the other navigation options)

That a car maker would offer a model with cloth seats and navigation standard, not optional nav.

Yeah, it's expensive and I will probably pass. It's a bummer you can't get a 12' Prius 5 with the bigger screen and better stereo, but not all that other stuff.

It does look at least like the TCH one will be able to get it that way.

I know the '12 Prius are getting the fake leather. Is the TCH getting the same fake leather too or will it be better quality?

Ohh ok. Yeah that doesn't happen often but that's because both leather and navigation were premium options. Clearly Toyota wants to make a navigation system more accessible and affordable to its customers.

It's real leather with optional leather/ultrasuede on the XLE Hybrid (those are really nice!).

And the 2012 Prius fake leather isn't like the other synthetic leathers like "leatherette" (which I like to call vinyl). It's closer to MB's Artico leather minus the graining. It does look and feel like real leather and not slippery at all.
