After owning a total of 11 different cars, I've switched to my very first 2011 Prius 2 in Blizzard Pearl. I bought it new with 5 miles off the lot. Both my fiancé and I drive this car and we love it so far. We are 229 miles in and avg 55.1mpg displayed.

We've gone from driving 80-85 on the freeway to going 55-65 behind SUVs and trucks in the slow lane and coasting and gliding slowly along when we can. It sort of becomes a game to try and see how much we can get out of the tank. It's been a fun ride so far and we love the simplicity.

I've never kept a car over a couple years or so, but I hope this one will be a keeper. In some ways, the car feels almost like a pet and we love it! I find that we are driving slower and less angrily while learning to drive without excess waste. I guess that's it for now, we appreciate all the helpful threads we've read on driving habits on this forum.

    :) Richard and Julia

Welcome! Like you, I tend to get the "itch" every couple years (or sooner) and some other car sparks my interest. Even if I keep multiple cars to drive, I still get it. I ought to calculate what my total costs have been for the 12 cars I've had in the past 10 years. I'd better not. It might make me take up some more expensive addiction.

    Welcome To PriusChat .

I remember the excitement waiting for my 2007 Prius to come in. Every since than I remain excited with all the features of this wonderful car. But Best Of All The Gas Savings, I have been getting 56 MPG for the last 4 years.

I hope you enjoy your new baby as much as I do mine.

3 of my older cars have been exceptionally fast, a used 540i a g35 and a g37 and I can say I don't miss the mileage and electrical problems (540i) those cars gave me. I'd like to drive our Prius till the end of its life and stop wasting a new tax on a vehicle every couple years or so for good!

P.S. even errands have become more fun to try and squeeze out a few more mpg on the trips!

Yes, I've noticed the same. Before wherever I'd go it was always a race, always trying to see how quickly I could get there. Even watching the Garmin to see if I could shave off a minute or two on estimated time of arrival. Always in a hurry and always stressed out. Now I relax and accept that the fact that I will not get there any faster but I arrive in a better mood. Cheers and good luck with your new ride!!!

Welcome to the world of Prius ownership. As a fellow new car addict and new Prius owner I know what you're going through. You appear to have already discovered that driving a Prius can be a very satisfying experience. and owning one really can give you a totally different perspective if you let it.

Enjoy your new pet. :welcome: Blizzard Pearl ROCKS!

The dealer inflated all tires except the front right to 40. The front right appears to be 35 and I'll correct that today, but we seem to have capped out around 54-55 mpg. We keep falling back to high 53s and then gaining it to 55 or so before being stagnant. Any tips? I should add also that I drive relatively slow now and try within safety means to drive without too much accelerating, being mindful of the mpg indicators.

Congrats Eggy. I must compliment your taste for I too bought a Blizzard Pearl 2011 Prius Two. I am however a tinkerer so I added things like a different horn, shark fin antenna, fog light kit and removed the wheel covers and added center caps. I find myself thinking "What should I do to it next?" I am actually looking forward to the 30K mark when I will be changing the oil myself. Gotta look into one of those magnetic oil plugs though. May your car give you many enjoyable and trouble free miles.

Prius 101: do not try to try hard to stay in the EV zone. Try to avoid the power zone, but it's OK to accelerate with the engine on.

    As with any car:
    - anticipate and leave a buffer in front so you don't brake suddenly when the car ahead brakes: best way to avoid gas is avoiding unnecessary acceleration
    - don't race to reds
    - try to time lights to hit the green rolling
    - try to hit gaps in traffic when there are yields
    - try to roll at average speed in stop and go, instead of following the stop and go. (This will be modified later to pulse and glide).
    - avoid short trips (particularly true in a Prius): combine errands and go to the farthest and work your way back; enjoy short walks and cycle rides. ;)
    - when your car is still warming up try to avoid working it hard.
