The snow seemed to have little to no effect on my MPG (I still get 52MPG or so), but I don't hypermile, so that's probably it. The warm-up does kill me, though.

Despite it, I was really excited to start driving. I'm a pretty recent Prius owner and I wanted to see how well it does in the snow. For those curious, it did lovely. :)

The other morning I was watching my mpg readout while driving a familiar stretch of road and couldn't figure out why my mpg was lower than it normally is there then the snowflake symbol popped up on my dash. lol

280 miles @ 55 mpg, with brand new Ecopia 422 at the start of the tank, without any SG II, just a lot of gliding on the capital beltway, the I95 and the Baltimore beltway when going downhill.

Contemplating blocking the grill, however since 80% of mileage is highway, I don't see much benefit from it, engine warms up whether it likes to or not :)

Well, here it turned out to be rain and then a few inches of snow. With the rain and higher temperatures the snow didn't stay on the pavement.

Worse than the snow, tonight's going to be too cold for the end of October with a low of 20F.

I live in one of the outer boros of NYC and thought the news reports were really overstating the severity of this storm we just got. I proceeded with my plans to visit friends who live up in Mahwah NJ which is just 60 miles from where I live. I was shocked that it was snowing when I arrived at 12noon!!! I didn't think it would stick since the road surfaces where above freezing. Well, I was wrong about that too!! Anyway, I was glad I had purchased new tires recently. I bought the Hankook H27 Optimos that everyone (well most everyone) seem to be raving about. I'm happy to report that these are the BEST tires in snow that I have had on my Prius. I was very, very impressed with their performance.

    Indeed it does. :)

Almost time to start grill blocking.

lol. I had it partially blocked earlier this month =(. But it's still bare so I'm ok with the cooler temps if I can walk outside on bare ground.

Traditionally engines run cooler on the highway, due to relatively low rev's and high speed. The Prius sort-of upsets the balance, with more EV mode in town, but overall I'd think that would still hold true. I'd for sure start grill blocking. Just for starters block 50% of the lower with styrofoam pipe insulation, and then start researching.
