Is there a place to buy a cubby subwoofer/enclosure?

Okay, thanks for that info. I'll be sure and get the "D" version then! So, is $299.99 a "reasonable" price for one, or should I keep looking? Anyone know?

I paid $250 through my installer. Believe someone on this forum paid $200. $200-$300 is the range. Just be sure you purchase from an "Authorized" distributor, or the warranty is not.

Could someone on here who purchased one at a more reasonable price please see if their installer/source would sell me one and ship it here? I don't have a dealer close enough to me to reasonably be able to go get it....with the responsibility of taking care of my grandmother and all.... That's why I'm gonna have to have an installer come to my home to install all the mirror stuff and stereo stuff and other electrical things I'm adding to the car.... It's not possible for me to leave her here unattended. Anyhow, if anyone can be of help with me getting the speaker for the great enclosure that was made for me (that everyone SHOULD DEFINITELY buy!!!!), it would be extremely amazing of you!

Sounds like a group buy! :) Wish we had a dealer up here with a good deal.

    Poke around on DIYMA.com
You should be able to find a member on that forum who's an Elettromedia (the makers of Hertz) distributor. They aren't allowed to market their wares online (at least not in the US). If you're in an area that's not near an authorized Elettromedia retailer, then you can find someone to sell it to you person to person....probably on DIYMA.com

OK, I'm sold on the enclosure. I've contacted Tim, and hopefully I'm next in line.

The next challenge is to choose a sub. The HX 250D sounds like it would be great, if I can only find one for a good price from an authorized dealer. I only know of one Hertz dealer, and they don't want to go below $315 (plus $25 sales tax).

In my attempts to shop around for a better price, I have found that 1) according to GeoGeek, Hertz won't allow online sales in the US, 2) the Hertz dealer search on their website apparently doesn't work, as it lists zero dealers for the US, and 3) requests emailed to the address on the Hertz website have gone unanswered. I'm sure there is more than one Hertz dealer in the metro Atlanta area, but it seems that Hertz really does not want you shopping around. They really want you to be at the mercy of your local installer.

Has anyone found a more protective grill that will work with the HX250 sub in this enclosure (with recessed mounting)? Seems like it would be way too easy for a music stand or a chair leg to find its way around that Hertz HGR 250 grill and into the cone or surround.

There are tons of dealers in your area:
    Go to: UltimateLocator.com
and type in your zip code.

You should also follow my advice and see if there is a member on DIYMA (hint: I know for a fact there is one) who will sell you the sub you're after...from a authorized reseller.

Thanks for the link! (Silly me, I was searching for Hertz dealers on HERTZ by Elettromedia - Special Car Stereo!)

Also, I'll try to find the DIYMA member who has the authorized hookup. Thanks again!

I'm also wondering if anyone has devised a good way to bolt/screw/strap this enclosure down. I understand that the carpet will keep it from sliding around in normal driving; I'm thinking more about some way to make sure the sub doesn't become a projectile in the event of a rollover or front end collision.

I gave this a little thought when I first saw shawnB2's Sub, but chose a different box for my install back then due to costs .

I considered a section of Velcro on the bottom and maybe on the back. If used correctly, it would take an accident where you're pretty much f....d before it comes loose. That would be easiest, but the other half (hook or mat) remains taped to the car. Possibly straps from the top down on either side, but not sure I would like the look. Another option was be remove the cone, attach the enclosure to the floor piece and reinstall. Problem there is it takes time to remove and make space in the back. Those were my ideas before I moved on.

Now that Tim has made the same enclosure affordable...I'm open for a definitive solution as well. Keep in mind the weight, looks and ability to undo any modifications (if that concerns you).

I think that some industrial velcro riveted to the back, with the carpeted bottom would make for a pretty secure enclosure. I would't velcro to the bottom, since that's a small removable panel. Even velcro'd to the back, it's just molded carpet, and not structural.

A metal bracket from under the top plastic trim might be be a place to add thumbscrew to a t-nut molded into or a rivnut attached to the fiberglass.

You can come check out the install at the shop Saturday around 11am. I'll be there at 9am and it should take 2 hours or so.

They have the box and finished it already just need to bring the car, sub and amp and it's done deal! Im trying to order some OEM cloth to do the box in, but it looks like I might have to go another way.
