    Hello everyone!

New member here. Picked up my Prius about two months back.

So far I'm loving it. I just discovered this forum and I have to say, quite impressed. Hopefully I can be accepted amongst the family of fellow Prius owners.

About myself. My name is Jonathan, I live in MA. I use my car for travel to work mainly, pretty far drive. Other that work I usually just ride my bicycle around town. Need to stay green and save the earth, one person at a time. Pretty open person - ask me whatever.

Lol, thanks for the warm welcome.

What would be the best way to get better gas mileage? I see people with loud mufflers on their imported cars. Is this supposed to help? It only gives me a headache, but if it helps I may do it.

Also, is there any shops in MA that can install a turbo? I want to he faster than a miata.

I'm sorry, I fail to see the humor. It was a serious question. I'm not very knowledgable with cars. My last car was a Honda accord, but that was it.

Okay, here's a serious answer. Countless hours and millions of dollars have been spent to achieve the amazing technology, comfort and perhaps unsurpassed performance and mileage capability of the Prius. If you honestly wonder if adding a "loud" muffler and/or a turbo will significantly improve on this design, then you really don't understand what this car is all about. Forgive me if you are insulted, but your ignorance regarding this vehicle is as unusual as it is breathtaking.

I pretty much just picked up this vehicle. Joined site to learn more about not only the car but cars in general.

Excuse me regarding ignorance, but isn't this called "newbie forum" for a reason?

Yes it is. The only bad question is the one unasked. So with that said, there was a member that stared a turbo project but some reason I don't remember didn't finish. I think he sold the Prius. Anyway, here is the thread, enjoy.

Any modifications to either the internal combustion engine or exhaust system void the warranty and would be both expensive and impractical.

It's not really a matter of being "knowledgeable" about automobiles, but being knowleadgeable about your vehicle.

Even a "newbie" who has purchased a Prius should realize it's a something called a Hybrid?

In general overview, this mean it has multiple systems in place to create momentum/return energy to the battery. An ICE and Electric Motors/regenrative brakes. Hybrid Synergy Drive orchestrates careful and computer controlled cooperation between all the components to maximize MPG and efficiency, and do things as mundane but important as keep the big battery in the back within a range of charge.

So your (sincere?) question as to whether a Turbo could be added? Well despite the reality that somebody, somewhere probably "could" do it, I'm going to simplify and say NO.

Prius, Hybrid Technology, and HSD (Hybrid Synergy Drive) were not designed to have turbo's added.

If you also sincerely put a premium on "fast"? You may want to consider that you've bought the wrong vehicle. The Prius really isn't "slow" but again in general, owners of Prius don't put a premium on being faster than everybody else...the premium is put on being more efficient than everyone else.

Wow, sorry of I caused such an uproar. Just trying to learn. That's why I've never done good in school, never asked so I never knew.

Why post that Prius video in my thread? I salute her. She shouldnt swore In front of the kids, but these people with their macho trucks are destroying the environment.

I'm glad I own a prius. I'm one step closer to saving the world.

Godfather, the best way to get better mileage is to learn how to drive the Prius. Most techniques are basic methods that will work for all vehicles but there are some hybrid/Prius specific that can really help including how to understand/read the display info. Check out those threads, many are stickies.

I've read the stickies and already learned quite a bit
