Ok, now that the preorder is over and we have several months before our cars arrive, what aftermarket items are you looking to add/install?

I will start with my thoughts. Please feel free to comment and add your items as well. I realize that many of these items have been discussed on other threads but maybe they don't all apply to the PIP.

Fog lights (for those of us not ordering the Advanced) - I would like to install into the OEM location but not sure of Halogen, HID, or LED.

leather seats - How do you pick a quality material and installer in your local area? Approx. how much should this cost? I "think" our cloth seats are heated. If not, is this an easy add at time of leather install?

Rearview mirror w/homelink - Is this available?

This is all I can think of at the moment.

I'm curious if there will be any range extending batteries for sale eventually... preferably some sort of pass-through where we can just add capacity vs having to replace the oem battery... who knows if its even possible though at this point...

I'm also curious how much better the LED lights of the advanced are vs the regular of the base. I wouldn't mind upgrading those as well (even without the autolevel stuff)

I am also hoping that aftermarket batteries that complement/replace the factory battery become available in the future. Especially since battery technology is bound to improve significantly in coming years:

Plug-in batteries could offer 10 times more range, 10 times faster charging in near future

This is hilarious! What are you going to do? Buy a BT Plate (remember those?) and put it up on the wall in your Bedroom?????

it appears that the lower front grill on the PiPrius is also the housing for the fog lights. Thus it's very possible that the current GenIII fog lights (and PC marketplace kit) will work. Just buy the lower grill from dealer and light kit from PC. The switch location should be about the same . Will know soon when 2012 parts diagrams are available.

    Dianne,

One thing I hate about CA law is the front plate requirement. The plate is drilled into the bumper at the dealer correct? If so, is that something you can prevent from happening when the car is delivered?

I've seen the aftermarket front plate holder that attaches from the bottom of the bumper and slides out.

I found this at the CA DMV site.

    Front License Plate Bracket

11713.17.  (a) Following the retail sale or lease of a motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, a dealer may not deliver the motor vehicle unless either of the following occurs:

    (1) The motor vehicle is equipped with a bracket or other means of securing a front license plate.

    (2) The dealer obtains a signed written acknowledgment from the person taking delivery of the motor vehicle acknowledging both of the following:

    (A) The person expressly refused installation of a bracket or other means of securing the front license plate.

(B ) The person understands that California law requires a license plate to be displayed from and securely fastened to the front of the motor vehicle and that the hardware necessary to securely fasten the front plate is available from the dealer.

    (b) A manufacturer or distributor may not sell or distribute in this state a new motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, unless that motor vehicle is equipped or provided with a bracket or other means of securing the license plates.

It looks like I'm going to go with option 2. I'll have my letter signed and in the dealer's hand before the PiP is delivered.

For 2012 I think Toyota had a bunch of Gen II grills left over. Should put the DRL's in the headlights

Even though the GEN2 Display has the Gas Engine symbol, the Engine could be running when the Display has NO LINES from it.

I would like the PIP Car Symbol to indicate anytime the Engine is using Gas or have another device to do it.

Also when Braking, I would like a PIP display to show the different levels of Regen Braking and then whether Mechanical Braking is being applied. Coastaletech.com initially planned on a small light tree for GEN2 cars, but then dropped the idea.
