Theft Prevention Blinking Red Key

    I'm wondering: when the SS-SE is disabled, this red key light appears and just keeps blinking. Does it ever stop? How much electricity is this using? Does it use up MORE than if I left the SS-SE on?

    Since my Prius will be parked for awhile, this is a concern. I'm considering all the suggestions about batteries, etc. A friend, of course, is ecstatic to be able to drive it for me once a week. I'd like to know if that blinking light will run down the battery.

    Where is this red light. It probably is a LED that uses little, very little, electricity.

    According to the Owner's Manual (page 32):
    I don't know what "long time" is, but deactivating the SS/SE via the SS/SE cancel switch would insure that this wouldn't be a problem.

    The location of the SS/SE cancel switch is shown on page 3 of the Owner's Manual, in the diagram.

    I am assuming this is the same light that appears when the security system is armed. If so, I believe this is an LED. The current draw from an LED is very small. Your battery will lose more charge from natural discharge faster than it will from powering this little LED alone.

    SS-SE will use energy as it "searches" for the fob, so disabling that function will prevent that energy draw from the battery.

    Aha! Thanks! It is the LED that appears when the security system is armed. I'm glad to know the difference between the current it draws and that from the SS-SE. So: the SS-SE is disabled, and a friend is driving Margarita occasionally. Actually, too often, for she loves my salsa-red Prius and says it turns heads!

    It's good to know this about the power, says one who knows zero about the difference between LEDS and the rest.
