    Again, SanJoseMercury reported,

I got my stickers in the mail yesterday, so here's another data point. I know that people have been posting that they're getting stickers in the 3x,xxx range, so mine are either a fluke, or support for the theory that there are multiple queues in the processing department at the DMV:

    Prius delivered: 10/16
    Mailed application: 10/17
    Check cashed/stickers issued: 10/27
    Stickers received: 10/31

    Sticker #: 26,3xx (no, that's not a typo)

I was very surprised how quickly I got my stickers, and was fully prepared to be waiting another couple of weeks. I did enjoy driving in the carpool lane this morning :)

So, I'm curious how many people are going to try to wait it out and hit the sweet spot before stickers run out, but after the increased tax break (credit) kicks in in 2006?

My wife and I just picked up our Prius Saturday, so you have our answer. (We cross the Bay Bridge daily, and can't bear the thought of another Giants season without stickers...)

Hooray! My ugly $30,000 stickers just arrived! (free car)

    274XX Just arrived today 11/3

Purchased 9/20 DMV issued title (no liens) 10/20
    DMV issued stickers 10/28

This is a big UP YOURS to Toyota Manhattan Beach (the worst), South Bay, Hollywood & Carson. All used FEAR tactics on me saying no stickers would be available after November so I should pay them 4000-5000 premium. I'll never step foot on any of those lots again.

Big HOORAY to PriusChat for access to the knowledge to make a decision based on facts not fear. Bought the car from Longo in Downey, great internet dept!

Has anyone sent in their application before actually taking delivery of their new hybrid? I'm putting down a deposit tomorrow so I will have a firm VIN, but the DMV form specifies that you are the 'registered owner', which of course I will not be until I take delivery (3-5 weeks from now for an 06 HCH) since the car won't be registered until then. Should I take the chance that they won't check for the registration or play it safe and wait until delivery?

    thanks!

    A couple of issues:

    1) I've had a deposit down on an '06 since August, but do not have a VIN. I don't think getting that is practical until at least the allocation is made to your dealer, and perhaps even later than that (when it actually arrives at the dealership?). [EDIT- Ooops. Just saw you are not getting a Prius, but a Honda Civic, so it may be possible in their process.]

    2) Living in the Bay Area, you need to get FastTrak FIRST, and that application requires a copy of the car's REGISTRATION, not the just the VIN.

If anyone knows ways around either/both of these, that would be great. If you live outside the Bay Area, #2 is not an issue.

Ahh, I do indeed live in the bay area, and that point is the fly in the ointment of my plan :( Thanks for the info!

A few people at DMV have told me that you can send the application before getting the plates or even having plates assigned to the vehicle. The VIN is sufficient. However, they said they have to have received the registration information from the dealer otherwise the VIN will not show up as yours and they cannot process the application.

So every couple of days I call and ask if my VIN is in the system.

Hey guys, I just got my stickers today.

    Delivered Prius: 10/23
    Sent in application: 10/23
    Check cashed in: 11/07
    Received stickers: 11/10

My # is 35,***. I guess I'm in the halfway-mark as only 70,000 will be issued (I think?).

Earlier this week, the California DMV sent me a notice to pay them $8.00 four days after the check that was included with my application cleared my checking account. So lame!

Got my stickers just in time for Friday night Bay Bridge traffic...

I had about the same timeline as Mark -- got our Prius 10/22, sent in the application on 10/24 (listing only the VIN on the app), check was cashed Monday (11/14) and stickers arrived today (11/17). My sticker is numbered 28696, though -- earlier than several posted here.

By the way, getting Fastrak set up is really quick if you live close enough to the city to drop by their office in person. I was in and out with my new hybrid Fastrak in about 10 minutes. You can do it with either a copy of the sales contract or the temporary registration they stick on your windshield when you drive the car off the lot.

The dealer said they submit the registration to DMV electronically, so I would think it's safe to mail in the application as soon as one gets the car.

    :(

I am SO annoyed. I got my Prius over 5,000 miles ago- (just a few months ago) and was told by 3 people at Toyota that I could NOT get the stickers until I got my license plate. SO, I've been sitting in traffic. I JUST got my license and sent the application for the decals in. Check hasn't cleared...so I'm sure it won't be until January until I get my stickers. Now, everywhere I go I see brand new, no license plate Prius's w/ carpool stickers.....well, since it sounds like there might have been a back log on applications, maybe now things will run smoother...oh well. I waited all these years, I guess I can wait a few more months...

Can someone who just received CA HOV stickers provide an update on what number their sticker has?

I'm in line to get a 2006 and just want to make sure there are some left for me. :)

    Thanks,
    B

Bought 2005 option 6 at Toyota of North Hollywood on 11/13/05, car arrived 11/16/05. Ordered stickers 11/17/05 (no lic plate yet, of course), check was cashed on 12/5/05. Stickers arrived 12/9/05. #393XX Hope this helps...

btw: I haven't see this mentioned in other posts but the stickers came with an 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" "Clean Air Sticker Certificate" that "...must be kept with your current vehicle registration card. Present to any peace officer upon demand."

FYI, I graphed the data posted on PriusChat (attached). It looks like we should be safe through Feb, and probably thru March.

(If anyone has newer data, please replot it or let me know!)

I received my stickers on 12/16/05. They are numbered 39,xxx. Very close to halfway through the 39 thousands.

Yes, they are ugly, but I now zip right by the cars stopped in traffic on 405 South and and don't think anybody notices the ugly stickers.

BTW, when I went to buy my car I made it known that the I wanted the sticker ASAP and the salesman thought I needed the license plates first but he assured me "they could do something". So when I came to pickup the car and reminded him of his promise he said he would call me and let me know. He was always nice and always returned my calls during my two months of waiting for the car, but I thought I have the car and he has the commission and he will forget me within 2 minutes.

Surprise! He called the next day and explained that the lady who does their registration paperwork goes to the DMV once a week and next week she will go and actually pickup my plates! I had them on the car 1 week later.

I had a check cashed on Dec. 13 and the sticker number was written on the check. It was just over 45,000. Possible they are working multiple stacks of stickers making the true count difficult to determine.
