Herebelow is the Prius line-item in the Nov sales report..

A significant jump in sales in what is normally a 'down' month in the industry. My question in looking at those numbers was 'What part did the 'v' play in the jump?'

Bob Carter answered it in his presentation
This is a good performance IMO because one of the major ???? was 'would the v cannabalize its sibling's sales' . At first blush, NO.

Wow, almost cracked into the big 5 family sedans, only 200 units away from Accord. Prius moved up from #14 last month to #8. Was #24 last month of all cars and light trucks. Must be up in the teens overall now. Hey, Camry, Accord, etc had their variants to help out, now big brother v helps out.

Yep, this is the traditionally the low point in fuel prices for the year. Right after NYD they begin escalating again until July 4th or mid summer. $4+ on average is a very good estimate for mid-2012.

By then there will be four Prius variants being offered. Watch out every other model.

It's a decent number of sales for the v, although it's a new car so it's hard to know how many were pent up demand.

The Prius liftback is now a solid 10k to 12k seller, even without gas price peaks, and only extraordinary events (economic crash, UA, tsunami) have seen it drop below those levels. With prices coming back to sanity and deals clearing the lots of the 2011 I'm not surprised to see the bump in sales of the liftback to 11.6k as well.

    Bring on the c!

Prius v (wagon) alone outsold the Volt 3 to 1.

No one at GM listens to me. I told them to copy Prius, but hey what do I know.

Tell ya, possible that Volt has already peaked. Too much other stuff coming fast. Leaf and PiP orders put a few nails in Volt coffin?

I think people want a practical, affordable, fuel efficient, low emission and simplified full hybrid (proven reliable) car. The fact that it runs on regular gas is a plus.

Compromising interior volume, $40k+ price, hassle of plugging in, premium gas and ULEV doesn't cut it. Not too many hybrid buyers do it for bragging right to make statement. A lot of people have common sense that high carbon electricity is not cleaner than a full hybrid with the cleanest gas engine.

makes sense. no cords, no need to install a 240V charger; just fill it at the gas station like people are familiar with.

...which leads me to wonder why a Prius is even being compared to a Volt then. It will be nice when the Prius PHV comes out. We'll see how those sell in terms of volume compared to the Prius v.

PS. I think the sales volume of the Prius c (if priced below $20K) is going to be Amazing.

Yeah, BUT this November is a little unique. You have a 2012 mid-cycle refresh for Prius on the doorstep, which I think motivates the dealers to get rid of the 2011's quicker...

Locally? I saw good discounts on remaining Prius and rebates on Black Friday end of November sales.

I would of been surprised is sales figures weren't up for this November.

Comparison from saving gas point of view. Prius v is a much better way to save gas for the current SUV owners. The high price and compromise to save a few more gallon of gas with the Volt is not worth it.

Agreed. Trading a Suburban XL or Tahoe in on a Prius v will save a huge amount of fuel. It will literally pay for itself in gasoline savings.

A Volt, on the other hand, for someone that drives less than 35-40 miles per day is as environmentally friendly as a Leaf.
